Trimbak Mukundrao Kamble was an Indian politician and Ambedkarite activist. He was the leader of Republican Party Of India (Democratic), a splinter faction of the Republican Party of India. Kamble was from Maharashtra and a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He was a popular Dalit leader. [1] [2]
Kamble was in politics since the formation of the Indian Dalit Panthers. He was a leader of the Namantar Andolan (Name Change Movement) of Marathwada University and an active leader in the Dalit Panthers. During 1990–96, he served as a legislator in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Kamble was the former president of the Republican Party of India (A). He was an Ambedkarite activist and a Buddhist. He left the party after differences with senior leader Ramdas Athawale and formed the new party Republican Party of India (Democratic), and became its president. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
He died aged 67 in Vivekanand Hospital and Research Center Latur on 28 September 2013. [8]
Bhau Panchabhai was an Indian Marathi language poet, writer, and Ambedkarite-Dalit activist. He is best known for his first poetry collection Hunkaar Vadaalnche for which he was awarded by the Government of Maharashtra for the best poetry collection of 1989. His poetry is considered as a prototype of Ambedkarite poetry and is translated in various languages including English. He lived in Nagpur and worked as a lawyer. He was awarded Laxmibai Ingole, Kavya Puruskar by the Laxmibai Ingole Foundation Amravati in 2015 for his contribution to Ambedkarite literature.
Harischandra Devram Chavan was an Indian politician who was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha. He represented Dindori constituency in Maharashtra and was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party. Chavan was also member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India and represented Malegaon constituency in Maharashtra. He died on 14 November 2024, at the age of 72.
Ramdas Bandu Athawale is an Indian politician, social activist and trade unionist from Maharashtra. He is the president of the Republican Party of India (A), a splinter group of the Republican Party of India and has its roots in the Scheduled Castes Federation led by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar since 1999. Currently, he is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India since 2016 and represents Maharashtra in Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India's Parliament since 2014. Previously, he was Lok Sabha MP from Pandharpur from 1999 to 2009 and from Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency from 1998 to 1999. He was also Cabinet minister of Maharashtra from 1990 to 1995 and a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1990 to 1996.

The Dalit Panthers was a social organisation that seeks to combat caste discrimination. It was led by a group of Mahar writers and poets, including Raja Dhale, Namdeo Dhasal, and J. V. Pawar in some time between the second and the third semester of 1972. It was founded as a response to the growing discontent among the Dalit youth during the 25th Independence Day celebrations. Inspired by the Black Panther movement in the United States, poet-writers J V Pawar and Namdeo Dhasal founded the Dalit Panthers, urging a boycott of the Independence Day revelry, terming it a 'Black Independence Day'. The movement's heyday lasted from the 1970s through the 1980s, and it was later joined by many Dalit-Buddhist activists.
The Republican Party of India (United), or RPI(U) is a coalition of many factions of the Republican Party of India (RPI). It was formed in preparation for the 2009 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election. The party was initially led by Rajendra Gavai, Jogendra Kawade, T.M. Kamble, and others but Gavai's faction later split from the united party. The group has since suffered internal strife similar to the disputes prior to the coalition's creation. Several parties still claim to be RPI.
