The Table Tennis tournament of the 2006 Lusophony Games was played in Macau, People's Republic of China. The venue was the Macao East Asian Games Dome Theatre. The tournament was played from 9 to 11 October 2006, and there was both the men's and women's competition with singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. [1]

Wang Nan is a female Chinese table tennis player from Liaoning. Wang remained as world #1 on the ITTF ranking system from January, 1999 to November, 2002. She is left-handed, and began playing table tennis when she was seven years old. Her particular skills are changing the placement of the ball during rallies and her loop drive, as well as her notable speed. Wang has been the leader of the women's table-tennis team of China after Deng Yaping's retirement. In terms of achievements, she is one of the most successful female table tennis players having won the gold medal in each of the Table Tennis World Cup, the Table Tennis World Championships, and the Olympic Games.

The Lusofonia Games is a multinational multi-sport event organized by the ACOLOP, which involves athletes coming from Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries. Most countries competing are countries that are members of the CPLP, but some are countries with significant Portuguese communities or have a history with Portugal.

The Football tournament of the 2006 Lusophony Games was played in Macau, People's Republic of China. The venues were the Campo Desportivo e Pavilhão da U.C.T.M. and the Macau Stadium. The tournament was played from 4 to 10 October 2006, and it was only a men's competition. The tournament was won by favourites Portugal who were represented by their under-20s team, defeating Angola in the final. Cape Verde won the bronze medal defeating Mozambique. The major absentee was the Brazilian team who decided not to take part in the games.

The Futsal tournament of the 2006 Lusophony Games was played in Macau, People's Republic of China. The venue was the Macao East Asian Games Dome. The tournament was played from 9 to 14 October 2006, and there was just the men's competition.

The Beach Volleyball tournament of the 2006 Lusophone Games was played in Macau, People's Republic of China. The venue was the Tennis Academy. The tournament was played from 13 to 15 October 2006, and there was both the men's and women's competition.

The 2009 Lusophony Games was the 2nd Lusophony Games, a multi-sport event for delegations representing Portuguese-speaking National Olympic committees. It took place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 11 to 19 July 2009. The Pavilhão Atlântico acted as the main venue, staging the opening ceremonies and the majority of the sporting events.

Table Tennis was contested by men and women at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from November 29 to December 7. It was one of six sports to begin prior to the Opening Ceremonies on December 1. Singles, Doubles, and Team events were held with all competition taking place at the Al-Arabi Indoor Hall.

Poulomi Ghatak is a table tennis player from West Bengal, India. She won three junior national championships as well as seven senior national championships between 1998 and 2016. In 1998 she won both the senior national and junior national championships. Poulomi has represented India at the Commonwealth Games at Melbourne in 2006 and the Commonwealth Championships between 2000 and 2008. She played at the Sydney Olympics when she was 16. She also played in the Indian Open finals in 2007. She started playing in 1992 and thereafter went on a successful upward learning curve.

Ilija Lupulesku is a former Serbian and later American table tennis player who competed at the 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2002 and competed for the United States from 2004 to 2006. Ilija Lupulesku played his first game of table tennis at age nine in his small hometown of Uzdin, Yugoslavia. After seeing other children playing at his local school, he picked up a paddle and began what would become his life's ambition. Despite his love and talent for soccer, Lupulesku, under the watchful eye of first coach Jon Bosika, committed himself to training and by age 14 was the top player on the Yugoslavian Junior National Table Tennis Team. Over the next 12 years, he would rise through the ranks of the world's best players and become one of the largest sport celebrities in his native Yugoslavia.

The 4th East Asian Games was an international multi-sport event for countries in East Asia which was held in Macau from October 29 to November 6, 2005.

The Table Tennis tournament of the 2009 Lusophony Games was played in Pavilhão Atlântico, Lisbon, Portugal. The tournament was played from 12 to 13 July 2009, and there was both the men's and women's competition with singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

On 13 October 2006, the Brazil national futsal team and Timor-Leste national futsal team faced each other in an international futsal match that was part of the 2006 Lusophony Games, hosted that year by Macau. Brazil defeated Timor-Leste 76–0, setting a world record for largest win in an international futsal match. One of Brazil's players, Valdin, scored 20 goals, which is another record. It was Brazil's biggest margin of victory since they beat Uruguay 38–3 in the 1991 Pan American Games. Timor-Leste was coming off a 56–0 loss to Portugal, which was the previous world record.

Ahmed Saleh is an Egyptian table tennis player. He competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2008 Games he took part in the men's individual event, losing in the second round to Damien Éloi of France. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed in the men's team event.

Sri Lanka National U-23 Team is the national team that participates in international football tournaments, such as the Summer Olympics and the AFC U-23 Championship representing Sri Lanka. The team has won bronze medals at the South Asian Games in 2004 and at the 2014 Lusophony Games. The Sri Lanka National U-23 Team won the silver medal at the 2006 South Asian Games, the first silver medal won by Sri Lanka at an international tournament.
