Tajikistan, officially the Republic of Tajikistan, is a mountainous, landlocked country in Central Asia with an area of 143,100 km2 (55,300 sq mi) and an estimated population of 9,275,828 people. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. The traditional homelands of the Tajik people include present-day Tajikistan as well as parts of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation. The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

The boxing tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 21 August 2016 at the Pavilion 6 of Riocentro.

Zhanibek Alimkhanuly is an amateur boxer from Kazakhstan. He won the gold medal at the 2013 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships after defeating Navruz Jafoev of Tajikistan. He also won gold medal of the 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships.

The 2017 AIBA Youth Women's World Boxing Championships were held in Guwahati, India, from November 19 to November 26, 2017. The competition is under the supervision of the world's governing body for amateur boxing AIBA and is the junior version of the World Amateur Boxing Championships. Boxers aged between 17 and 18 as of 1 January 2017 were eligible to compete.

Shavkatdzhon Shokirovich Rakhimov is a Tajikistani professional boxer who competes in the super featherweight division. He has held the IBO super featherweight title since 2017. Rakhimov is currently ranked #5 by the WBC and IBF.
