"Take Me to Your Leader" is the debut single by American rock band Incubus, released in 1996. It is a re-recorded version of the original version from their 1995 debut album Fungus Amongus . The song was later re-recorded again for their 1997 EP Enjoy Incubus .

Music video

An official music video was made for the song, the band's first music video at that point. The video is a reiteration of the comedy film The Gods Must Be Crazy . The video opens with Brandon Boyd dressed as a caveman playing the djembe, before he is hit in the head by a glass bottle. Curious of the bottle's origin, it leads Boyd to discover a bustling freeway next to his forest as the other band members also appear dressed as cavemen. The video was also intercut with the band's live performance at the Troubadour in Hollywood, California on February 25, 1995. [1] Boyd continues to venture into Los Angeles as he is seen walking along the streets and taking the subway until he and the other band members are picked up by DJ Lyfe in a Volkswagen Beetle (a homage to the same car used by Cheech Marin in the 1987 film Born in East L.A.). Boyd continues to venture through the city as he asks several children where the bottle originated from to no avail. Finally, he makes his way to Los Angeles City Hall, as he and the other band members return to their forest with former city mayor Richard Riordan and several other policitians. Riordan awards Boyd with a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap as a small ribbon-cutting celebration takes place before the camera pans out revealing the forest to be in the middle of an on-ramp along Route 101. Live performance

The song was a staple in the band's setlist early on, however, along with other funk-based Fungus Amongus songs, it soon vanished from the band's setlist by the end of the 90s. In 2004 the band performed the song live for the first time in 6 years during a concert in London, England, much to fans' delight, with the band going on to play the song 9 times that year. It is to date the last Fungus Amongus/Enjoy Incubus song to be played live. [5]

Music and lyrics

The main difference between the 1995 and re-recorded versions is the presence of DJ Lyfe. Notably, the 2004 performances were also done at a slower pace, and lacked the rapping segments which were present in the recorded versions. [6]

The song's lyrics contain references to cocaine and other drugs.[ citation needed ]

It contained re-recordings of songs that were featured on their previous, independent releases Let Me Tell Ya 'Bout Root Beer and Fungus Amongus, as well the previously unreleased song "Version" and an untitled hidden track at the end of '"Hilikus". It was the first appearance on a release by DJ Lyfe, who added turntable scratches to the Fungus Amongus songs, and also supplied saxophone samples. Held in the summer of 2011, it allowed fan access and interaction with the band as they prepared for the release of their seventh studio album, If Not Now, When?. From June 30 to July 6 in a warehouse space in West Los Angeles, California, band members Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, Jose Pasillas, Ben Kenney and DJ Kilmore and their fans participated in instrument clinics, question and answer sessions, video chats and large art canvases where both band members and fans alike were encouraged to share original artwork. Each night, Incubus performed a fan created set-list, starting with their earliest material and culminating on the last night with a performance of If Not Now, When? in its entirety.

8 is the eighth studio album by American rock band Incubus. It was released on April 21, 2017, through Island Records. The album takes its name from being the band's eighth LP. The release of 8 in 2017 saw the longest time between full-length albums for Incubus. The album was previously produced by Dave Sardy, and later re-produced and mixed by Skrillex, a close friend of the band. The album's first single, "Nimble Bastard", peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart in April 2017.
