Air Vice-Marshal Tamara Nancy Jennings, CB , OBE (born in 1973) is a British solicitor and senior Royal Air Force officer. Since November 2024, she has been deputy commandant of the Royal College of Defence Studies. She served as director of Legal Services and head of the RAF Legal Branch from 2018 to 2024. [1] [2]

Early life

Jennings was born on 27 August 1973 in Akrotiri, Cyprus, the daughter of Nigel John Quincey and Janet Mary Quincey. She attended Kesteven and Sleaford High School and Lady Manners School. She received an LLB from the Northumbria University and an MA from King's College London. [3] She was admitted as a solicitor in July 1998, [2] and went on to practice law in Newcastle upon Tyne. [1]

RAF career

On 25 May 2000, Jennings was commissioned into the RAF Legal Branch of the Royal Air Force (RAF) with the rank of flight lieutenant. [4] She moved from a short service to a permanent commission on 19 April 2004, allowing her to serve in the RAF until retirement. [5] She was promoted to squadron leader on 25 May 2004, [6] and to wing commander on 25 May 2010. [7] She has worked at HQ Personnel and Training Command, HQ Strike Command, RAF Brize Norton, and HQ Air Command. [1]

In 2017, Jennings was promoted to air commodore. [1] She served as Deputy Director Legal Services (RAF) from May 2017 to 2018. [8] On 29 September 2018, she was appointed Director of Legal Services (RAF) and promoted to air vice-marshal. [9] Since November 2024, she has been deputy commandant of the Royal College of Defence Studies. [10]

In the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours, Jennings was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). [11] She was awarded the Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 2018, [12] and was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2025 New Year Honours. [13]

Air Vice-Marshal Cecil Thomas (Ginger) Weir, was an officer in the Royal Air Force. During the Second World War he served in RAF Bomber Command. He was taken prisoner after his aircraft was hit by a bomb from another aircraft during a raid on the Osnabruck Canal in November 1944 and was imprisoned in Stalag Luft I. He was in charge of the Operation Buffalo British nuclear tests at Maralinga in Australia in 1956, and air task group commander for the Operation Grapple nuclear tests at Christmas Island in 1957. In 1963 he became the first commandant of the Joint Warfare Establishment.

Air Vice-Marshal John Finbar Monahan, known as Fin Monahan, is a British public servant and former senior Royal Air Force officer. After training as a pilot, serving in active squadrons and exchange postings, Monahan was the commandant of the Central Flying School at RAF Cranwell, with the Red Arrows coming under his command. Monahan has trained with several non-UK militaries, and serves as the director of the Air Command Operating Model Programme. Since November 2024, he has been chief fire officer of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
