Tambaram CityPolice, officially Tambaram Police Commissionerate, is a city police administration for the city of Tambaram located within the Chennai Metropolitan Area in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. [2] [3] [4]

It is the third largest police commissionerate in the state of Tamil Nadu next to Greater Chennai Police and Avadi City Police. The agency executive holds the rank of Additional Director General of Police, which is same as that of the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner. [5]

History

The Tambaram City Police was established through the division of the Greater Chennai Police jurisdiction, as part of the Tamil Nadu State government's efforts to reform the policing structure, resulting in the creation of the Tambaram and Avadi Police commissionerates. On 1 January 2022, Tambaram City Police was formally established by State Government of Tamil Nadu. [6] [7] [8]

When the Tambaram City Police was initially established, it encompassed twenty police stations from the Tambaram and Pallikaranai police districts. [6] [9]

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is a local government for the City of Chennai in the Chennai Metropolitan Area of Tamil Nadu, India. Inaugurated on 29 September 1688, under a royal charter issued by King James II of England on 30 December 1687 as the Corporation of Madras, it is the oldest municipal body of the Commonwealth of Nations outside Great Britain. It is the largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu with an area of 426 km2. It is headed by a mayor, who presides over 200 councillors, each of whom represents one of the 200 wards of the city. It is the second oldest corporation in the world after the City of London. The city limits, which had been expanded several times over the years, is currently coterminous with the Chennai district. Tambaram City Municipal Corporation (TCMC) is a local government of the City of Tambaram within the Chennai Metropolitan Area of Tamil Nadu, India. It covers an area of 87.64 sq. km in the Chengalpattu district, and has an estimated 2021 population of 960,887.

Kilambakkam Bus Terminus, is a bus terminus in Kilambakkam, a southern suburb of Chennai, India. Situated along the GST Road, it caters to the bus services towards the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu. It became operational on 30 December 2023. Spread over an area of 88.52 acres (358,200 m2), it is built to decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. It will chiefly handle buses to southern Tamil Nadu, including cities such as Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Pondicherry, Sengottai, Karaikudi, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and to major cities in Kerala including Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur, Munnar and Guruvayoor. It is an integrated bus terminus of mofussil buses operated by TNSTC, SETC, Kerala KSRTC, KSRTC SWIFT and contractual (omni) buses. It will be connected to other parts of the Chennai Metropolitan Area and suburbs by MTC buses. It is Asia's biggest bus station.

Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation is the civic body that governs the city of Kancheepuram in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the four municipal corporations within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, the other three being the central Greater Chennai Corporation,the satellite Tambaram City Municipal Corporation and the Avadi City Municipal Corporation. Inaugurated on 21 October 2021 covering an area of 36.14 Sqkm and an estimated population of more than 3,00,000 in 2021. It is headed by Mayor who presides over 51 councillors, each of whom represents one of the 51 wards of the city and executive is governed by Municipal Commissioner. Located about 75 km from Chennai in Tamilnadu state of southern India, Kanchipuram is a temple City renowned for its majestic temple architecture and Silk sarees. Of the 108 holy temples of the Hindu god Vishnu (DivyaDesams), 14 are located in Kanchipuram. In ancient time the city was a hub for religious education and was known as the ghatikasthanam, or "place of learning".

Kumbakonam City Municipal Corporation is the civic body governing city of Kumbakonam in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Municipal Corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. Avadi City Police officially Avadi Police Commissionerate is a city police administration for the north and northwestern neighborhoods and suburbs of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Located in the western neighbourhood of Avadi, it was created by the trifurcation of the Greater Chennai City Police jurisdictions. Tamil Nadu State government created Tambaram and Avadi Police commissionerates in an attempt of reforming greater Chennai city police. Avadi Police Commissionerate was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on 1 January 2022. The newly created Avadi Commissionerate jurisdiction covers twenty-five police stations from the police districts of Avadi and Redhills. It is the second largest police commissionerate in the state of Tamil Nadu next to its preceding agency Greater Chennai Police. The head the agency hold the same rank (ADGP) as the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.
