Avadi is a suburb of Chennai within Chennai Metropolitan Area limit, located in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a municipal corporation west of Chennai, about 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Chennai Central Railway Station. It is surrounded by major defence establishments and is home to various universities and engineering colleges. The city is served by Avadi Railway Station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. As of 2011, Avadi had a population of 345,996, which is 10th most populous place in Tamil Nadu. It is home to the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Ordnance Factory Board (ODF) which houses Engine Factory and Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). The lake in Avadi was known as Paaleripattu, which is now found only in very old land documents.
Tambaram is a southern suburb of Chennai, India. Located in the Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, it is governed by Tambaram City Municipal Corporation and is a part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), formerly known as the Madras Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA), is the nodal planning agency of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The CMDA administers the Chennai Metropolitan Region, spread over an area of 5,904 km2 (2,280 sq mi) and covers the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Ranipet and Kancheepuram. It was set up for the purposes of planning, co-ordination, supervising, promoting and securing the planned development of the Chennai Metropolitan Area. It covers an area of 87.64 sq. km in the Pallavaram and Tambaram taluks adjacent to the limits of Greater Chennai Corporation, and has an estimated 2021 population of 960,887.
Pallavaram Corporation was a corporation planned by the government of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In 2011, Chennai Corporation extended its city limits. In 2017, Pallavaram, Avadi and Tambaram was announced for the upgrade into corporations. But later in year 2019, Avadi is upgraded as municipal corporation, while Pallavaram remained as a municipality, and a part of the newly created Chengalpattu district. The proposed Chennai Pallavaram Corporation would have been a satellite corporation adjacent to the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Tambaram City Polce officially Tambaram Police Commissionerate is a city police administration for the south and southwestern neighbourhoods and suburbs of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Located in the southwestern neighbourhood of Tambaram, it was created by the trifurcation of the Greater Chennai City Police jurisdictions. Tamil Nadu State government created Tambaram and Avadi Police commissionerates in an attempt of reforming greater Chennai city police. Tambaram Police Commissionerate was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on 1 January 2022. The newly created Tambaram Commissionerate jurisdiction covers twenty police stations from the police districts of Tambaram and Pallikaranai. It is the third largest police commissionerate in the state of Tamil Nadu next to its preceding agency Greater Chennai Police and Avadi Police. The head the agency hold the same rank (ADGP) as the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.
