Tambaram CityPolice, officially Tambaram Police Commissionerate, is a city police administration for the City of Tambaram located within the Chennai Metropolitan Area in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. [2] [3] [4]

It was created by the trifurcation of the Greater Chennai City Police jurisdictions. [5] Tamil Nadu State government created Tambaram and Avadi Police commissionerates in an attempt of reforming greater Chennai city police. Tambaram Police Commissionerate was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on 1 January 2022. [6] The newly created Tambaram Commissionerate jurisdiction covers twenty police stations from the police districts of Tambaram and Pallikaranai. [7] It is the third largest police commissionerate in the state of Tamil Nadu next to its preceding agency Greater Chennai Police and Avadi Police. The head the agency hold the same rank (ADGP) as the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner. [8]

Anakaputhur was once famous for its traditional weaving business, which has declined due to modern competition. As of 2011, the town had a population of 48,050.Formerly a municipality,it was merged into Tambaram Municipal Corporation in 2021.

The Greater Chennai Metropolitan Area, or simply the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA), is the fourth-most populous metropolitan area in India, the 22nd-most in Asia, and the 40th-most in the world. The CMA consists of the core city of Chennai, which is coterminous with the Chennai district, and its suburbs in Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Ranipet districts. Pallavaram Corporation was a corporation planned by the government of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In 2011, Chennai Corporation extended its city limits. In 2017, Pallavaram, Avadi and Tambaram was announced for the upgrade into corporations. But later in year 2019, Avadi is upgraded as municipal corporation, while Pallavaram remained as a municipality, and a part of the newly created Chengalpattu district. The proposed Chennai Pallavaram Corporation would have been a satellite corporation adjacent to the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Located in the western neighbourhood of Avadi, it was created by the trifurcation of the Greater Chennai City Police jurisdictions. Tamil Nadu State government created Tambaram and Avadi Police commissionerates in an attempt of reforming greater Chennai city police. Avadi Police Commissionerate was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on 1 January 2022. The newly created Avadi Commissionerate jurisdiction covers twenty-five police stations from the police districts of Avadi and Redhills. It is the second largest police commissionerate in the state of Tamil Nadu next to its preceding agency Greater Chennai Police. The head the agency hold the same rank (ADGP) as the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.

The 1st Tambaram City Council is the current meeting of the legislative branch of the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, composed of the 70 Councillors elected from 70 wards across five zones.
