Tanya Watson (born 24 December 2001) is a diver who represents Ireland and specialises in the 10m platform. [1] She competed in the women's 10 metre platform event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. [2] In 2021, she became the first Irish female diver to qualify for and compete in the Olympic Games. [3] In 2022, she also became the first female diver to quality for and represent Team NI in the Commonwealth Games. [4]

Diving

Born in Southampton, England, Watson is eligible to represent Ireland through her grandmother, who was born in Derry in Northern Ireland. [3] Watson participated in gymnastics as a child, before focusing on diving. [5] In 2018, she was a finalist in both the European Junior Championships and the World Junior Championships, [5] At the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, she finished fifth in the Girls' 10m platform competition, and placed 29th at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in the Women's 10 metre platform. [6]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she re-located to Dublin to train at the National Aquatic Centre with the Irish national coach Damian Ball. [7] Prior to this, she was primarily based at the Southampton Diving Academy and coached by Lindsey Fraser. [7] She placed 16th at the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup preliminaries in May 2021, and went on to place 14th in the semi-finals. [6] Her performance at the event ensured her qualification to the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. [7] At the Olympics, Watson placed 16th in the preliminary round with a score of 289.4, earning herself a spot in the semi-finals. Germán Saúl Sánchez Sánchez is a Mexican diver. He is nicknamed "Duva". At the age of 16, he competed in the Men's individual 10m platform at the 2008 Summer Olympics and came in 22nd. He won one gold medal in the 2011 Pan-American Games. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won a silver medal in the synchronized 10m platform with his partner Iván García. In the individual 10m platform, Sánchez came 14th. In 2016, Sánchez took part in his third Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he came 5th in the synchronized 10m platform, again alongside Iván García. Twelve days later, Sánchez won the silver medal in individual 10m platform. and 9th in the semi-final. He became the third Mexican athlete to win an Olympic silver medal in Men's individual 10m platform after Joaquín Capilla (1952) and Álvaro Gaxiola (1968). He is also the only Mexican diver who has won Olympic medals in both individual and synchronized events.

He competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics after his qualification through a victory in the 2019 Asian Diving Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 8 September 2019. He is the first Singaporean diver to have qualified for the Olympic Games. Due to his Olympic qualification, Chan was nominated for the Straits Times Athlete of the Year award in 2020.

Aidan Heslop is a British diver and high diver who competes internationally representing Wales and Great Britain. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games he competed representing Wales, finishing 6th in the 10 metre platform and 12th in the 3 metre springboard. In 2021, he won the gold medal in the 27 metre high dive at the Abu Dhabi Aquatics Festival representing Great Britain, performing the highest difficulty dive, a 6.2 degree of difficulty, in history. He placed sixth in the inaugural men's high dive at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships.

Nikita Hains is an Australian diver who competes in the 10m individual events, as well as the 10m synchronised.
