Taskmaster is an American comedy panel game show. The Taskmaster format was originally created by British comedian Alex Horne during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010, then became a UK television show on Dave in 2015. The American adaptation was produced for Comedy Central in 2017. Based on the original British version, the American TV series stars comedian and actor Reggie Watts in the title role of the Taskmaster, issuing simple comedic and bizarre tasks to regular contestants, with Horne acting as Watts' assistant and umpire during the challenges. The series was recorded in California, [3] and the contestants were Lisa Lampanelli, Freddie Highmore, Ron Funches, Dillon Francis, and Kate Berlant. [4] It premiered on April 27, 2018 [5] and was won by Kate Berlant. Watts has said that there will not be a second season. [6]

Reception

The show received mostly positive reviews, [7] [8] [9] [10] though some critics compared it unfavorably to the original series. [11] [12]

Greg Davies and Horne (Taskmaster and umpire of the British version) later said the show would have worked better with fewer changes from the UK format. [13]

Watts refers to himself as a "disinformationist" who aims to disorient his audience in a comedic fashion. He was the regular house musician on the spoof IFC talk show Comedy Bang! Bang!. From 2015 to 2023, Watts led the house band for The Late Late Show with James Corden.

She played Jo in Channel 4 sitcom Man Down from 2013 to 2017. In early 2014, the pilot of the sitcom GameFace, of which she is the writer, lead actress and executive producer, aired on Channel 4. The first full series aired in 2017 on both E4 and Hulu in the US. The second series aired on Channel 4 and Hulu in July 2019. By deejaying and collaborating, Francis helped to popularize the new moombahton genre, and in 2012 he adapted it further into moombahcore and EDM trap, giving the music a harder sound, as heard on his EP Something, Something, Awesome. He expanded into EDM genres with Money Sucks, Friends Rule (2014), which hit number 2 on the Billboard dance chart, then shifted gears into Latin music with 2018's Wut Wut, a Spanish-language album honored with a Latin Grammy and a Latin American Music Award. Taskmaster is a British comedy panel game show created by comedian and musician Alex Horne and presented by both Horne and Greg Davies. In the programme a group of five celebrities – mainly comedians – attempt to complete a series of challenges, with Horne acting as umpire in each challenge and Davies, the titular "Taskmaster", judging the work and awarding points based on contestants' performances. The concept for the programme was first created by Horne for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010; he later secured a deal with Dave to adapt it for television with the first episode premiering in 2015. After the ninth series in 2019, the programme was acquired by Channel 4. The programme has completed sixteen series as well as two Champion of Champions specials and four New Year's Treat one-offs by January 2024, and is set to continue for at least five more series until 2026.

Taskmaster Australia is an Australian comedy panel game show first broadcast on Network 10 in 2023. Based on the UK series Taskmaster created by comedian Alex Horne, it sets five comedians ridiculous tasks to complete, and judged against each other by the "Taskmaster", Tom Gleeson, accompanied by his assistant, comedian Tom Cashman. The show's first season was broadcast in early 2023, and a second season was announced in mid-2023 and is set to air in 2024.
