Taunton Vale Sports Club (usually referred to as "Taunton Vale", "Vale" or "TVSC") [4] is a multi use community sports club located in Taunton, Somerset. Taunton Vale HC, Taunton Cricket and Taunton Vale Tennis Club are the resident sports clubs. It is also the regular home venue of both Somerset County Cricket Club's Second XI, Somerset CCC also holding many of their games against MCC Universities teams at the ground, which have so far included two first-class matches, in 2012 and 2015.

The sports club has two county standard cricket fields and a pavilion, a sand dressed hockey ATP, a 3G pitch, 4 netball/tennis hard courts and a multi use sports hall. The first LED sports lighting installation in the UK was installed on this site in 2014, providing competition level lighting across all artificial pitches and courts.

First-class cricket

Somerset County Cricket Club hosted the inaugural first-class match at the ground in a 3-day game (31 March to 2 April 2012) against Cardiff MCCU, [4] which featured a county record partnership of 450 for the second wicket between Nick Compton and James Hildreth. [4] The game was also the first-class debut for Cardiff MCCU. [4]

The second first-class match at Taunton Vale took place from 2 to 4 April 2015, when Somerset played Durham MCCU. [5]

Women's international cricket

Taunton Vale hosted a single Women's Twenty20 International match in 2011, between Australia and New Zealand. [6]

The stadium has hosted following ODI matches till date.

County Ground, Taunton Cricket ground

The County Ground, known for sponsorship reasons as Cooper Associates County Ground, and nicknamed Ciderabad, is a cricket ground in Taunton, Somerset. It is the home of Somerset County Cricket Club, who have played there since 1882. The ground, which is located between Priory Bridge Road and St James Street, has a capacity of 8,500. The ground was originally built as part of a sports centre by Taunton Athletic Club in 1881, and became the home of the previously nomadic Somerset County Cricket Club soon after. Having leased the ground for ten years, the club bought the ground in 1896, under the guidance of club secretary Henry Murray-Anderdon. The ground ends are the River End to the north and the Somerset Pavilion End to the south.

West Hendford Cricket Ground

West Hendford Cricket Ground was a first-class cricket ground in Yeovil, Somerset. The land for the ground was first leased by Yeovil Cricket Club in 1874 and was also used for a range of other sports, most significantly hosting Yeovil Rugby Club in the 1890s and then again from 1935 until the ground was closed. Significant improvements were made to the ground during the 1930s, including the opening of a new pavilion jointly funded by the Rugby and Cricket clubs. The ground was demolished in 1944 when Westland Aircraft extended their factory, and both Yeovil Cricket Club and Rugby Club moved to Johnson Park.

Cardiff MCC University

Cardiff South Wales MCC University, formerly Cardiff University Centre of Cricketing Excellence, commonly abbreviated to Cardiff MCCU, is one of six University Centres of Cricketing Excellence supported by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). It comprises Cardiff University, the University of South Wales and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Matthew Jack Leach is an English cricketer who plays for Somerset County Cricket Club and England. A spin bowler, he bowls left-arm orthodox spin, and bats left-handed. Matthew Edward Hobden was an English cricketer, a right-arm fast-medium bowler who batted right-handed. Born in Eastbourne, East Sussex, Hobden was educated at Millfield School and Eastbourne College. A police investigation into his death concluded in May 2016 with no further action or arrests.

The 2017 English cricket season was the 118th in which the County Championship had been an official competition. The season, which began on 28 March and ended on 29 September, featured two global one-day competitions played in England and Wales, the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup. England Women's team won the World Cup, defeating India Women in the final at Lord's. Pakistan beat India in the Champions Trophy final.
