Teatr Biuro Podróży (Travel Agency Theatre) is an alternative theatre company based in Poznań, Poland. Founded by Paweł Szkotak in 1988. This Polish theatre ensemble creates and performs large-scale, outdoor theatre on social and political themes, using gestures, physical actions, visual spectacles, music, and minimal texts. The company tours regularly and has performed in fifty countries.

The group’s most famous piece, Carmen Funebre (Funeral Song), is based on interviews with victims of the Balkan wars. Developed in 1993-1994, Carmen Funebre continues to tour internationally, including performances in the U.S in 2003 and in the UK in 2007. Carmen Funebre was awarded Fringe First (1995), the Critic’s Award (1995), and the Hamada Award (1996) at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The ensemble's most recent production, HofD (Heart of Darkness) premiered in London in the summer of 2007 at the National Theatre's outdoor festival, Watch This Space.

They have a strong relationship with the National Theatre in London, performing there every summer as part of the National's summer festival 2004-2010. Their 2010 appearance is 'Carmen Funebre' in July.

Paweł Szkotak, founder

Born in 1965, Szkotak was educated at Adam Mickiewicz University (Poznan, Poland). In addition to leading Teatr Biuro Podróży, he is also the artistic director of Polski Teatr in Poznan, which was named one of the best repertory theatres in Poland by Teatr magazine in 2004. He is also director of the Maski Festival of experimental theatre in Poznan. He has been granted over a dozen awards for his work, including the prestigious Passport award from Polityka magazine (2004), presented to outstanding Polish artists that represent Poland abroad.

Pig Iron Theatre Company is a multidisciplinary ensemble based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company has created over 40 original works over the past 26 years, performed both locally and internationally. Their individual works have been inspired by history and biography, rock music, American kitsch culture, scientific research and our relationship to our geologic time. They have toured to festivals and theaters in places such as England, Scotland, Poland, Lithuania, Brazil, Ireland, Japan, Italy, Romania and Germany, among many others.

Polish culture in the interwar period witnessed the rebirth of Polish sovereignty. The nationhood along with its cultural heritage was no longer suppressed by the three foreign partitioners. The cultural development saw the retreat of the 19th century elite cultures of nobility as well as the traditional folk culture, and the rise of a new mass culture integrating Polish society closer to the new intelligentsia educated in the practice of democracy.

Michał Zadara is a Polish theatre director and set designer. He has worked in almost every major city in Poland, and outside of Poland in Berlin, Vienna, Tel Aviv, New York and Philadelphia. He studied at the American International School of Vienna, and at Swarthmore College. He is best known for his faithful, yet vivid stagings of classic plays. He is the first director to have ever staged Adam Mickiewicz's masterpiece Dziady (poem) in its entirety.

Henryk Baranowski was a Polish theatre, opera and film director, actor, stage designer, playwright, screenwriter and poet. He is best known for his starring role in the film Dekalog: One directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, and also appeared as Rosa's brother Josef in Rosa Luxemburg directed by Margarethe von Trotta and as Napoleon in Pan Tadeusz directed by Andrzej Wajda. He directed over 60 theater and opera productions in Europe, Russia and the US and was the Artistic Director of the Teatr Śląski in Katowice in the mid 2000s. The Transversal Theater Company (TTC) is a nonprofit organization of American and European artists based in Amsterdam. Founded in 2003 by Bryan Reynolds, Lonnie Alcaraz, Douglas-Scott Goheen, and a number of other artists, TTC is an experimental theater company known for creating original performance works that explore charged social, cultural, conceptual, and political realities of today through the combined social-cognitive theory, performance aesthetics, and research methodology known as Transversal Poetics. The products of this praxis or practice research (practice-as-research) approach have been various and far-reaching, including a theory of acting and design aesthetics.
