Teenage Snuff Film is the first solo album by Rowland S. Howard. Former The Birthday Party bandmate Mick Harvey contributes drums, organ and guitar, while Brian Hooper of The Beasts of Bourbon features on bass guitar. It contains eight original songs, and two cover versions: "White Wedding" by Billy Idol, and "She Cried" (previously performed by The Shangri-Las, Johnny Thunders, and others).

The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Lindsay Gravina at Birdland Studios in Prahran and Sing Sing Recording Studios in Cremorne.

The album was reissued as a limited edition double LP in October 2011, with minor track listing changes. [2]

Remastered versions of both Howard's solo albums were released by Mute Records in Europe, Fat Possum in America and Bloodlines in Australia on 27 March 2020. [3]

Reception

Teenage Snuff Film was well received by critics. The album was praised for its "dark dramatic sounds" and went on to become one of the most acclaimed and influential Australian releases of the 1990s.[ citation needed ]

Influence

In a Reddit AMA, Against Me! lead singer Laura Jane Grace named Teenage Snuff Film as her favourite album of all time. [4]

Crime & the City Solution

Crime & the City Solution are an Australian rock band formed in late 1977 by singer-songwriter and mainstay Simon Bonney. They disbanded in 1979 leaving only bootleg recordings and demos. In late 1983, Bonney travelled to London and in 1985 he formed a new version of the group in the U.K. which included members of the recently disbanded The Birthday Party; later they transferred to Berlin, where they issued four albums – Room of Lights (1986), Shine (1988), The Bride Ship (1989) and Paradise Discotheque (1990) – before disbanding again in 1991. In 2012 Bonney reformed the band in Detroit with two veterans of its Berlin era and a handful of new members.

Play Me Backwards is the twenty-second studio album by Joan Baez, released in 1992. In addition to her own work, she included songs by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Janis Ian among others. The album marked the first time Baez worked with producers Kenny Greenberg and Wally Wilson, with whom she would continue to work throughout most of the 1990s. Also significant was her recording of the Mary Chapin Carpenter song, "Stones in the Road", for which Baez produced her first ever music video. These Immortal Souls were an Australian post-punk band formed in London in 1987 by Harry Howard on bass guitar, his older brother Rowland S. Howard on guitar and vocals, Epic Soundtracks on drums and Genevieve McGuckin on keyboards. They issued two albums on Mute Records, Get Lost 1987 and I'm Never Gonna Die Again 1992. The group relocated to Australia in 1995 and played less frequently before disbanding there in mid-1998. Soundtracks died in November 1997 and Roland Howard died in December 2009.

Genevieve McGuckin is an Australian musician, songwriter, film producer and graphic designer who was born in Brisbane. In 1986 she was a founder of These Immortal Souls on keyboards and has collaborated with fellow founder, and sometime domestic partner, Rowland S. Howard, and with his earlier band, the Birthday Party, on their album, Prayers on Fire.

The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads is the debut studio album from Denton, Texas-based indie rock trio Lift to Experience. The double album was released on June 26, 2001, and is thus far the only full-length recording from the band. A concept album about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ that "casts Texas as the Promised Land," it was produced by guitarist/vocalist Josh T. Pearson, and mixing was handled by Simon Raymonde and Robin Guthrie, both of Cocteau Twins fame. The album was released on Guthrie and Raymonde's record label Bella Union. Receiving very little attention upon release, the album gradually found an audience via the internet and has developed a minor cult following.

Shivers (The Boys Next Door song) Single by The Birthday Party

"Shivers" is a song by the Australian post-punk band the Boys Next Door, who would later become the Birthday Party. It is the tenth and final track from the band's debut studio album Door, Door, released in 1979 on Mushroom Records. It was released as the album's only single in May 1979, backed with the B-side "Dive Position".

Pop Crimes is a 2009 solo album by Australian musician Rowland S. Howard. The album was released on 16 October 2009, ten years after Howard's previous solo album Teenage Snuff Film, and two-and-a-half months before his death from liver cancer on 30 December. The album was released in the United States by Fat Possum Records in August 2014. Remastered versions of both Howard's solo albums were released by Mute Records in Europe, Fat Possum in America and Bloodlines in Australia on 27 March 2020.

Intoxicated Women is a studio album by Australian musician Mick Harvey. It was released in January 2017 under Mute Records. It was volume 4 of Harvey's Serge Gainsbourg interpretations/translations.

Siamese Friends is the tenth solo album by singer/songwriter Ian Matthews. The album was recorded at Chipping Norton Recording Studios in Oxfordshire, with some overdubs added at Maison Rouge in Fulham.

Delirium Tremens is the third of four albums by Mick Harvey, presenting the songs of Serge Gainsbourg, sung in English. It was preceded by Intoxicated Man in 1995 and Pink Elephants in 1997, and followed by Intoxicated Women in 2017.
