The mayor of Chicago is the chief executive of city government in Chicago,Illinois,the third-largest city in the United States. The mayor is responsible for the administration and management of various city departments,submits proposals and recommendations to the Chicago City Council,is active in the enforcement of the city's ordinances,submits the city's annual budget and appoints city officers,department commissioners or directors,and members of city boards and commissions.

Bernard "Berny" L. Stone was alderman of the 50th Ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois from 1973 to 2011. First elected to the Council in 1973,Stone was the second longest-serving alderman. His tenure spanned the terms of seven Mayors,from Richard J. Daley to Richard M. Daley. Sandra Lee Jackson is an American politician. She was elected to the Chicago City Council as an alderman of the 7th ward of the City of Chicago in the 2007 municipal elections held on February 27,2007. She succeeded Darcel A. Beavers who had been appointed by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley after the 2006 November elections to succeed her father William Beavers,Jackson's rival,as alderman of the 7th Ward. Jackson resigned from Chicago City Council,effective January 15,2013. On February 20,2013,Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of filing false tax returns,and on August 14,2013 was sentenced to one year in prison.
Rudy Lozano was a labor activist and community organizer from Little Village,Chicago,Illinois. Lozano was important in organizing "Black-Brown unity" in the election of Harold Washington,the first African American mayor of Chicago. Lozano was murdered shortly after Washington's election,which was "a severe setback for the Chicago Mexican community,[who] lost a dynamic,rising political star and their major liaison in the Washington camp."
Toni Lynn Preckwinkle is an American politician and the current County Board President in Cook County,Illinois,United States. She was first elected as President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners,the executive branch of Cook County government,in November 2010 and became the first woman elected to this position.
Scott Waguespack is a member of the Chicago City Council,representing the 32nd ward since May 2007. The current 32nd ward includes parts of the neighborhoods of Bucktown,Goose Island,Hamlin Park,Lakeview,Lincoln Park,and Roscoe Village. He is a member of the council's Progressive Reform Caucus,and was the chair during 2015–19. During the 2019–23 term,he was selected as the chair of the Finance Committee.
The Chicago mayoral election of 1983 was first the primary on February 22,1983,which was followed by the general on April 12,1983. The election saw the election of Chicago,Illinois' first African-American mayor,Harold Washington. Incumbent Mayor Jane Byrne,who had served since April 16,1979 had lost re-nomination in the Democratic primary in a three-way race between herself,then–Congressman Washington,and then–State's Attorney Richard M. Daley in February 1983. Washington would face off against Republican nominee Benard Epton,winning with a 3.7% lead over Epton in the general election.

The 2019 Chicago aldermanic election took place in two rounds on February 26 and April 2,2019,to elect 50 aldermen to the Chicago City Council. Each alderman represents one of Chicago's 50 wards. The elections are non-partisan and use a two-round system where the top two finishers compete in a second-round run-off if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round. The elections were party of the 2019 Chicago elections,which included elections for Mayor,City Clerk,City Treasurer.
