Tessa James (born 17 April 1991) is an Australian actress and model. She made her acting debut as Anne Baxter in soap opera Neighbours in 2006. James played the role of Nicole Franklin in Home and Away from 2008 until 2011. She has also appeared in Beaconsfield and Love Child .

Early life

James was born on 17 April 1991 in Melbourne. [1] [2] She is the daughter of former Richmond AFL player Stephen James. [3]

Career

Her first television role was playing Anne Baxter in the soap opera Neighbours . [2] She also played the lead role in the Australian short film Hugo. [2]

James joined the cast of Home and Away as Nicole Franklin in 2008. James enjoyed playing Nicole because she was "feisty and fun" and they did not have much in common, beyond a love for fashion. [2] In March 2011, James confirmed that she had left Home and Away, and had plans to audition for roles in Los Angeles. [4] The following year, she appeared in the telefilm Beaconsfield , a dramatisation of the Beaconsfield Mine collapse. [5]

In 2015, James made an appearance in television drama Love Child . [6] She also filmed a small role in Australian feature film Spin Out , and appears in comedy film You're Gonna Miss Me. [1] In 2017, James starred in a production of Nick Enright's Blackrock at the Seymour Centre. [7]

Personal life

In December 2010, James became engaged to professional rugby league footballer Nate Myles. [8] The pair wed on 23 December 2011. [9] In August 2017, James confirmed she was expecting the couple's first child. [10] In February 2018, James announced she had given birth by posting a photo to her Instagram account showing Myles pushing a pram. [11]

In 2024 James announced that she gave birth to her fourth child secretly.

In 2014, James was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. She returned to the Gold Coast, Queensland to be with her husband and to receive treatment. [12] Her father was being treated for Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the same time. [3] James is in remission. [10]

Nicole Franklin is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Tessa James. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 18 April 2008. Nicole was introduced by executive producer Cameron Welsh. Nicole was mentioned various times before appearing on-screen, James was cast in the role and described by Welsh as an "exciting talent". He predicted that the viewers would respond "really well" to her. Nicole was initially portrayed as a shallow "party girl" with "wild ways". Also described as a "high maintenance" female, she has been shown to dress constantly in a stylish manner. Nicole is also become notable for her many relationships. Her first prominent romance was with Geoff Campbell. Described as "complete opposites", Geoff is credited as a catalyst in Nicole mellowing her brash attitude. Their storyline allowed the actors to take part in one of the serial's "biggest ever location shoots", when the couple became stranded on a remote desert island. In one storyline Nicole was involved in a same sex kiss with fellow character Freya Duric, which was branded controversial by various media sources. The Astonis are Home and Away's first nuclear family to join the soap opera in 17 years, since the arrival of the Sutherlands in 2000. The show had long been missing traditional parent-child stories and used them to fill that void. Maggie was introduced alongside her husband Ben Astoni and their two daughters Coco and Ziggy Astoni. Maggie decides to move to the town to offer her family a happier future. Maggie and Ben married when they were young and her mother did not approve of him. Morassi has described the Astoni marriage as a strong union, noting that they still have "passion and electricity" in their relationship.
