The Texas Medal of Valor, officially the Lone Star Medal of Valor, is the second highest military decoration that can be conferred to a service member of the Texas Military Forces. [1] It can also be conferred to service members of the United States Armed Forces or other state militaries. [2] Subsequent decorations are conferred by a silver twig of four oak leaves with three acorns on the stem device. [2] A lapel button is also conferred with this decoration. [2]

The Bronze Star Medal (BSM) is a United States Armed Forces decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.
The Silver Star Medal (SSM) is the United States Armed Forces' third-highest military decoration for valor in combat. The Silver Star Medal is awarded primarily to members of the United States Armed Forces for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States.
The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense.

The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is part of the state military force of Texas, and one of three branches of the Texas Military Forces. Members of the Texas State Guard do not carry weapons, do not attend basic training, cannot be assigned outside of Texas, cannot be involuntarily placed on military orders, and can only be paid if they take volunteer orders. Along with the other two branches, the TXSG falls under the command of the Governor of Texas and is administered by the Adjutant General of Texas, an appointee of the Governor. The other two branches of the Texas Military Forces are the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard.

The Texas Outstanding Service Medal is the sixth highest military decoration that can be conferred to a service member of the Texas Military Forces. Subsequent decorations are denoted by a bronze or silver twig of four oak leaves with three acorns on the stem device.
The Texas Superior Service Medal is the fourth highest military decoration that can be conferred to a service member of the Texas Military Forces. It can also be conferred to civilians. No devices are authorized for this decoration.
The Former Texas State Guard Association Medal is a medal within the awards and decorations of the Texas State Guard Nonprofit Association that may be awarded to a member of the Texas Military Forces. This includes Air National Guard, Army National Guard, and State Guard.
The Medal of Honor (MOH) is the United States Armed Forces' highest military decoration and is awarded to recognize American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, guardians and coast guardsmen who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. The medal is normally awarded by the president of the United States, but as it is presented "in the name of the United States Congress," it is sometimes referred to as the "Congressional Medal of Honor."
Border support operations, formerly known as Operation Faithful Patriot, are currently being conducted as a domestic deployment and civil contingency operation of the United States Armed Forces at the Mexico–United States border. According to the United States Northern Command, the operation is being conducted in order to prevent a potential border crossing of migrants from Central America. The existing National Guard Operation Guardian Support is also being reinforced.
