The Texas Medal of Valor, officially the Lone Star Medal of Valor, is the second highest military decoration that can be conferred to a service member of the Texas Military Forces. [1] It can also be conferred to service members of the United States Armed Forces or other state militaries. [2] Subsequent decorations are conferred by a silver twig of four oak leaves with three acorns on the stem device. [2] A lapel button is also conferred with this decoration. [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Texas State Guard</span> Military unit

The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is part of the state military force of Texas, and one of three branches of the Texas Military Forces. Members of the Texas State Guard do not carry weapons, do not attend basic training, cannot be assigned outside of Texas, cannot be involuntarily placed on military orders, and can only be paid if they take volunteer orders. Along with the other two branches, the TXSG falls under the command of the Governor of Texas and is administered by the Adjutant General of Texas, an appointee of the Governor. The other two branches of the Texas Military Forces are the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard.

Border support operations, formerly known as Operation Faithful Patriot, are currently being conducted as a domestic deployment and civil contingency operation of the United States Armed Forces at the Mexico–United States border. According to the United States Northern Command, the operation is being conducted in order to prevent a potential border crossing of migrants from Central America. The existing National Guard Operation Guardian Support is also being reinforced.
