Thama is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy horror film directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, written by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew and Arun Falara and produced jointly by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik. [1] It serves as the fifth installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. It stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.
Principal photography began in December 2024, primarily in Delhi, Mumbai and Ooty and concluded by mid-2025. The soundtrack album was composed by Sachin–Jigar. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 21 October 2025, coinciding with Diwali. [2]
The film was announced in June 2024 with the initial title as Vampires of Vijay Nagar. [4] The film was also teased in the post-credit scene of Stree 2 (2024). [5] Later, in September 2024, the title was renamed as Thama. [6] Director Aditya Sarpotdar confirmed in an interview with Zoom that the film is not a horror-comedy like earlier installments of the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe but rather a romantic comedy infused with supernatural and mythical elements rather than just rooted in folklore. [7] [8] The film revolves around the theme of vampires. [9]
Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna were announced in lead roles in June 2024. [10] Nawazuddin Siddiqui joined the cast as the main antagonist in October 2024. [11] Paresh Rawal also joined the cast for a supporting role in the same month. [12] Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi will make special appearances in the songs [13] while Varun Dhawan will make a cameo appearance in the film, reprising his role from Bhediya (2022). [14]
Principal photography commenced in December 2024 in Chitra Studios, Mumbai. [15] However, the shooting was delayed after Rashmika injured her leg. [16] Later, filming resumed in March 2025 at Film City, Mumbai where sets resembling Delhi houses, streets and graveyards were made. [17] [18] In April 2025, filming moved to the forests of Ooty, Nilgiri hills and Dodabetta. [19] Various portions of Siddiqui's character were also shot in Ooty. [20] Ayushmann, Rashmika and Siddiqui wrapped up their portions by the end of May 2025. [21] The special songs featuring Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi were filmed in July 2025. [22] In the same month, Varun Dhawan shot his cameo in six days. [23]
The film's first look posters were released on 18 August 2025. [24] The film's teaser titled World Of Thama was released on 19 August 2025. [25]
The film is scheduled to release worldwide on 21 October 2025, coinciding with Diwali. [26] [27]
