Thanlon is a subdivisional headquarters in the Indian state of Manipur. [1] It is situated 3819 feet above sea level. It is one of the oldest villages in Churachandpur district. It is also known as Tualbual.[ citation needed ]

Manipur is a state in northeastern India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. It is bounded by Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south, and Assam to the west; Burma (Myanmar) lies to its east. The state covers an area of 22,327 square kilometres (8,621 sq mi) and has a population of almost 3 million, including the Meitei, who are the majority group in the state, Loi, Yaithibi, Kuki, and Naga peoples, who speak a variety of Sino-Tibetan languages. Manipur has been at the crossroads of Asian economic and cultural exchange for more than 2,500 years. History

Thanlon was selected by C.S.Booth, the then S.D.O., Tamenglong to be an administrative outpost within the erstwhile Tamenglong subdivision. Therefore it was an administrative outpost from 1934 until it was upgraded to a circle officer’ headquarters in 1946. The area occupied by government servants is known as Thanlon Lambulane and the area occupied by the Chief and his villagers is known as Tualbual.

Lumthang was a great chief of Ngaihte clan of Simte tribe. A century ago, he had established Thanlon (Tualbual) village. Major J Shakespeare, SMS, gave him a boundary paper dated 11 February, 1906 written in Lushai language which is reproduced below:

The Simte are one of the tribe of the Kuki community in Northeast India. They are mainly concentrated in the southern parts of the state of Manipur. Sim means South in their dialect. A significant number also are settled in neighbouring areas of Mizoram and Assam. There are also Simte in Chin State in Myanmar.

Speakers of Inpui and Rongmei are subsumed under the tribal label Kabui.Kabui was originally the Inpui but Rongmei in Imphal valley also used that name 'kabui' but Rongmei in the hill did not used the name.

Simte is a Kuki-Chin language of India. It is spoken primarily by the Simte people in Northeastern India, who are concentrated in Manipur and adjacent areas of Mizoram and Assam. The dialect spoken in Manipur exhibits partial mutual intelligibility with the other Kukish dialects of the area including Thadou, Hmar, Vaiphei, Paite, Kom and Gangte. It is written in Latin script.

Chiru (Rem) is a Kuki-Chin language of India. The Chiru population numbers approximately 8,599.It is one of the least documented and a highly endangered language spoken in three districts of Manipur: Noney, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, and Cachar district of Assam. Chiru has been recognized as a Scheduled Tribe of Manipur by the government of India since 1956 under “The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment) Act, Act No. 63 of 1956” Dated 25th September, 1956. The total population of the native speakers of Chiru is only 8599. The native speakers have high proficiency in Meitei. The language is neither used in schools nor in radio or mass media. Older people read and write in Manipuri written in Bengali script, but the younger generation prefers Roman script.
