The Ayurvedic Institute is an Ayurvedic school and Ayurveda health spa in Albuquerque, New Mexico. [1] [2] It was established in 1984 by Vasant Lad as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization to teach the traditional Ayurvedic medicine of India and to provide these ancient therapies. The school offers training and services in Ayurvedic healing includes herbs, nutrition, panchakarma cleansing, acupressure massage, cooking, Yoga, Sanskrit, and Jyotish (Vedic astrology). [3] It is considered the leading Ayurvedic school in the West. [4]

Campus

The Ayurvedic Institute is located in the North East part of Albuquerque, New Mexico The college has multiple classrooms that can accommodate up to 80 students, publishing department, retail store, yoga studio, herb department and a panchakarma department that treats up to 10 patients a week. [5]

In Ayurveda, a dosha is one of three substances that are believed to be present in a person's body. Beginning with twentieth-century literature, there was an idea called "The Three-Dosha Theory". Authoritative Ayurvedic treatises describe how the quantity and quality of these three substances fluctuate in the body according to the seasons, time of day, diet, and several other factors. While Ayurvedic doshas are a similar concept to Latin Humorism, it is a distinct system.

Pulse diagnosis is a diagnostic technique used in Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Mongolian medicine, Siddha medicine, traditional Tibetan medicine, and Unani. Although it once showed many positive results, it no longer has scientific legitimacy, but research continues and is ill-defined in some derived text, and is subjective.

Vaidya Suresh Chaturvedi

Vaidya Suresh Chaturvedi (1928-2017) was an Ayurveda practitioner from Rajasthan, India. Previously he was a professor at Bombay University and has written many books on Ayurveda. In 2000, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in the India. As an active practitioner of the ancient science of Ayurveda (healing), he is known in the national and international arenas of alternate medicines and has presented numerous papers. He has held a number of conferences in India. He was, a Ph.D guide in the University of Mumbai.

Patanjali Yogpeeth

Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, is one of the largest yoga institutes in India, possibly the whole world. Named after the Rishi Patanjali, the institute is Baba Ramdev's flagship project. Its purpose is to practise and research and develop yoga and ayurveda, as well as manufacture ayurvedic medicines. It is also the home of the University of Patanjali. Acharya Balkrishna is the General Secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth.

Nancy Lonsdorf is an American author and medical doctor who practices Maharishi Ayurveda. She received her training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and studied Ayurveda in Europe and India, and is the author of several books on the subject.

Brahmavarchas Shodh Sansthan, or Brahmavarchas Research Institute, is a research centre situated on the bank of the Ganges, about half a kilometer from Shantikunj, Haridwar, in India. Equipped with a state of the art laboratory, a library and a botanical garden containing rare ayurvedic herbs, the institute is working on unique projects such as Yagyopathy, Ayurveda and Vedic mantras.

National Research Institute for Panchakarma (NRIP) at Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur district, is the only organisation in the public sector for research and development in Indian systems of medicine, especially Panchakarma related to ayurvedic system. The institute was set up in 1971 on the southern bank of Bharathapuzha river in Cheruthuruthy. The institute comes under the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS) of the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The institute is functioning with hospital, laboratories and pharmacy and is undertaking various research activities, especially Clinical Research on Neuromuscular problems and Training programmes to Doctors and Therapists on Panchakarma. The institute also provides intensive training on Panchakarma for Ayurvedic physicians. This institute organises Post-Graduate three-month-long Special Certificate Course in Panchkarma after graduation for Ayurvedic doctors is held twice a year. On 21 October 2010, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare upgraded the institute as a Centre of Excellence.There are opportunities for students who seek to learn and practice Panchakarma course as Masseurs conducted in a gap of every 4–5 years.Seats are limited.Duration of the course is one year.

Vasant Lad

Vasant Dattatray Lad is an Indian author, Ayurvedic physician, professor and director of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lad received the degree of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) in 1968 from the University of Pune, in Pune, India and a Master of Ayurvedic Science (M.A.Sc.) in 1980 from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Pune. Before coming to the United States in 1979, Lad served as the medical director of the Ayurveda Hospital in Pune for three years and as Professor of Clinical Medicine for seven years at the Pune University College of Ayurvedic Medicine.

Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga Research Center

The Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga Research Center, founded by Swami Kuvalayananda in 1924, is a spiritual, therapeutic, and research center with a specific aim to coordinate ancient yogic arts and tradition with modern science; he founded the journal Yoga Mimamsa at the same time. Kaivalyadhama is located in Lonavla, Maharashtra, India, with smaller branches elsewhere in India, France, and the United States.

The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) is the apex institute for training and research in Ayurveda in India, established in 1976 at Jaipur, by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, in Mysore is a government run Ayurveda college and hospital. It is considered to be to the oldest academic institute in India teaching Ayurvedic medicine.

Paneenazhikath Narayana Vasudeva Kurup is an Indian Ayurvedic practitioner, researcher, writer and the founder director of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRIMH). He is a former vice chancellor of the Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar and a former advisor of the Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He has published several articles and a book, A Handbook on Indian Medicinal Plants, on the traditional Indian medicine system, The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2005, for his contributions to Indian medicine.
