The compilation features eleven of the fifteen songs originally released on Ace's debut Take a Look Around , as well as one single, one B-Side single, one remix and the original version of "Letter to the Better".

Long Live the Kane is the debut album by American rapper Big Daddy Kane, released by Cold Chillin' Records on June 28, 1988. It was produced by Marley Marl and established both as premier artists during hip hop's golden age. Kane displayed his unique rapping technique while covering topics including love, Afrocentricity and his rapping prowess. Marley Marl and Big Daddy Kane display a sparse production style - creating beats with fast-paced drums and lightly utilized James Brown samples.
Duval Clear, known better by his stage name Masta Ace, is an American rapper and record producer from Brownsville, Brooklyn. He appeared on the classic 1988 Juice Crew posse cut "The Symphony". He is noted for his distinct voice and rapping proficiency, and has influenced several MCs.
The Juice Crew was an American Hip Hop collective made up largely of Queensbridge –based artists in the mid–to–late 1980s. Founded by radio DJ Mr. Magic, and housed by Tyrone Williams' record label Cold Chillin' Records, the Juice Crew helped introduce New School artists Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante and Kool G Rap. The crew produced many answer records and engaged with numerous "beefs" – primarily with rival radio jock Kool DJ Red Alert and the South Bronx's Boogie Down Productions, as well as the "posse cut", "The Symphony".
Take a Look Around is the debut solo studio album by American rapper Masta Ace. It was released on July 24, 1990 through Cold Chillin' Records with distribution via Reprise Records. Recording sessions took place at House Of Hits in Chestnut Ridge, New York and at Libra Digital Sound in Long Island City. Production was handled by Marley Marl and Mister Cee.
SlaughtaHouse is the first album from hip hop group Masta Ace Incorporated, and the second overall album from rapper Masta Ace. It was released on May 4, 1993 by Delicious Vinyl. The loose concept of the album is addressing the growing trend of violence in hip-hop music at the time, notably from Gangsta rap. He addresses this satirically in the over-the-top single "Slaughtahouse".

Masta Ace Incorporated was a hip hop crew formed by rapper Masta Ace. The group, also known as The I.N.C., included Eyceurokk, Lord Digga, Paula Perry and R&B vocalist Leschea. Ace first gained notice in the rap world as a member of the legendary Juice Crew, and with the release of his acclaimed 1990 debut Take a Look Around, which featured an appearance from Eyceurokk. In 1992, Ace formed the I.N.C. crew and recorded their first group album, SlaughtaHouse, which was released in May 1993. Ace provided almost all of the rapping, with Lord Digga serving as the hype-man. Digga was also responsible for a bulk of the beats, producing five of the album's songs as part of the duo Bluez Brothers. Paula Perry was the main performer on the song "Who U Jackin'?", Leschea provided vocals for "Don't Fuck Around (Outro)", and Eyceurokk appeared on the tracks '"Slaughtahouse"', "Ain't U Da Masta" and "Saturday Nite Live". The album was highly acclaimed, but sold only moderately well. Some versions of SlaughtaHouse included the hidden bonus track, "Born to Roll", which became a huge hit in 1994, breaking into the Top 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Eyceurokk split from the crew after SlaughtaHouse, leaving the group to four members.
"Still on It" was the first and only single from American singer Ashanti's remix album Collectables by Ashanti. The single was released in late November 2005 and there are three versions: one featuring rappers Paul Wall and Method Man, and two remixes featuring T.I. and labelmate Caddillac Tah, respectively. The single generated less interest than previous Ashanti singles, reaching number 15 on the "Bubbling Under" portion of the Billboard Hot 100.
