The Filthy Tongues are an alternative rock group from Edinburgh, Scotland, made up of Martin Metcalfe, Fin Wilson and Derek Kelly, who were previously members of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and Angelfish alongside Shirley Manson. As Isa & the Filthy Tongues with singer Stacey Chavis, the band released two albums.

Isa & the Filthy Tongues

An earlier incarnation of the band, Isa & The Filthy Tongues, featured American singer-songwriter Stacey Chavis on lead vocals. Their first album, Addiction was released on Circular Records in May 2006. It was re-released in 2009. [3] [4] [5]

Dark Passenger came out through Neon Tetra Records in 2010. [6] [7] Scotland on Sunday compared Metcalfe's performance on "Beautiful Girl" to the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. [8]

Isa & The Filthy Tongues contributed the song "Big Star" to the film Spread , directed by fellow Scot David Mackenzie and starring Ashton Kutcher and Anne Heche. [9] They also contributed five songs including the title track to the film New Town Killers directed by Richard Jobson, who co-wrote the song and also sings on "New Town Killers". [10] [11]

In 2014, The Filthy Tongues (appearing without Chavis), released a track titled "Lethe Walks" on YouTube. [12] This track, along with two others, was released in a special limited edition 10" vinyl, as a promo tool for Scenes a book of paintings and poetry by Martin Metcalfe and Paul Hullah. [13] [14]

In 2016, the Filthy Tongues released their first album Jacob's Ladder , named after a staircase cut into Calton Hill in Edinburgh. The Scotsman compared the title track with the work of Nick Cave. [2] The Filthy Tongues toured in 2017 with the Skids, [15] and Metcalfe and Kelly contributed to writing four songs on the 2018 Skids' album Burning Cities [16] which reached number 28 in the charts. [17]

Local football club Hibernian F.C. used the song "Holy Brothers" to launch their Hibernian Reborn campaign in season 2017–18. [18] A new Filthy Tongues album entitled Back To Hell is due to be released on 21 April 2018. [19]

At the band's commercial peak, the line-up consisted of Martin Metcalfe on vocals, John Duncan on guitar, Fin Wilson on bass guitar, Shirley Manson and Rona Scobie on keyboards and backing vocals, and Derek Kelly on drums.

Skids are a Scottish punk rock and new wave band, formed in Dunfermline in 1977 by Stuart Adamson, William Simpson, Thomas Kellichan (drums) and Richard Jobson. Their biggest successes were the 1979 single "Into the Valley" and the 1980 album The Absolute Game. In 2016, the band announced a 40th-anniversary tour of the UK with their original singer Richard Jobson.

William Stuart Adamson was a Scottish rock guitarist and singer. Adamson began his career in the late 1970s as a founding member and performer with the punk rock band Skids. After leaving Skids in 1981, he formed Big Country and was the band's lead singer and guitarist. The group's commercial heyday was in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he was a member of the alternative country band the Raphaels. In the late 1970s the British music journalist John Peel referred to his musical virtuosity as a guitarist as "a new Jimi Hendrix".

The Dykeenies are a Scottish indie rock band from Cumbernauld, formed in 2005. The group consists of brothers Brian Henderson and Andrew Henderson, along with Steven Ramsay and John Kerr. Since their formation, they have released one studio album, Nothing Means Everything, accompanied by three singles. After a worldwide tour, the band began work on their second album, which was released in October 2011. They broke up in January 2012, before re-forming for two performances in 2017. The Dykeenies released their EP 'I Wanted To Show Her All The Beautiful Things in the World' on 11 May 2018. The title of the 2018 EP was taken from Bret Ellis-Easton's 'American Psycho'.

NINJA 2009 Tour Sampler is a free compilation EP by Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction and Street Sweeper Social Club as part of the Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction 2009 NINJA tour. It was released on March 20, 2009 for free, on the tour's official website. Both of Street Sweeper Social Club's songs that appeared on the album, "Clap for The Killers" & "The Oath", later appeared on their self-titled album. The two Nine Inch Nails tracks, "Not So Pretty Now" and "Non-Entity" were both originally recorded during the With Teeth sessions, but did not make it onto the final record. The two Jane's Addiction's songs are re-recorded versions of songs that had originally only live versions, from the band's first official record.

New Town Killers is a British drama film written and directed by Richard Jobson, starring James Anthony Pearson and Dougray Scott. New Town Killers follows two business men, portrayed by Dougray Scott and Alastair Mackenzie, who play macabre cat and mouse games with people from the fringes of society.

The album follows Addiction and Dark Passenger, two records recorded by an earlier incarnation of the band known as Isa & the Filthy Tongues, as well as following the albums released by the members earlier major label bands Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and Angelfish.

<i>Burning Cities</i> 2018 studio album by Skids

Burning Cities is the fifth studio album by Scottish punk rock and new wave band Skids, released on 12 January 2018. Produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth, this is the band's first studio album in 36 years, since the release of Joy in November 1981. It is their first album to feature Big Country father-and-son guitarists, Bruce and Jamie Watson, the second with drummer Mike Baillie, and third with founding bassist William Simpson. Tracks 5, 7, 9 and 11 are co-written by Martin Metcalfe. The album reached number 28 in the charts. It is also the first album not to feature any contribution from former guitarist Stuart Adamson, who died in 2001.

In Tongues is the debut extended play by Japanese-Australian singer-songwriter Joji. It was released on 3 November 2017, through 88rising and Empire. A deluxe version of the project was released on 14 February 2018.

"Filthy" is a song by American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake. It was released on January 5, 2018, as the lead single from his fifth studio album, Man of the Woods (2018). The electro-funk song was written and produced by Timberlake, Timbaland, and Danja, with additional songwriting from James Fauntleroy and Larrance Dopson. Its music video was released on same day, which is set at a futuristic technology conference and shows Timberlake staging a proof-of-concept demo for a robot. It was serviced to contemporary hit radio on January 9, 2018. "Filthy" debuted at number 9 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Timberlake's 18th top 10 on the chart as a soloist, and reached the top 5 in Canada.
