Production

Development

In early July 2015, the announcement of a full-length animated Hello Kitty film was made by Sanrio. In early 2019, it was announced that New Line Cinema would collaborate with Sanrio and Flynn Picture Company to produce an English-language film inspired by the well-known children's brand. [5] In 2021, it was reported that Jennifer Coyle and Leo Matsuda had been hired to direct the film, with Lindsey Beer set to pen the script. [4] [6]

Announcement

After years of planning and development, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema announced the production of a Hello Kitty feature film, scheduled for release on July 21, 2028. An announcement shared on Instagram and TikTok. [7] [8] The studio also stated that this film will mark Hello Kitty's first appearance in a Hollywood theatrical release. [9] [2]

According to Warner Bros. Pictures, the film is set to be released on July 21, 2028. [2] [1] It was previously set to be released for a theatrical feature initially in 2019. [10]
