The Hitmix is a British community radio station based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, covering the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme and surrounding areas of The Potteries. It broadcasts from studios in the rural village of Alsagers Bank. [2]
The Hitmix launched as a full-time radio service in November 2015, having been awarded an Ofcom community radio licence in October 2014 over competing applicants including 6 Towns Radio and Cre8 Radio, a station operated by Staffordshire University.[ citation needed ] Prior to this, Hitmix previously operated a number of temporary broadcasts under Restricted Service Licences to test the viability of the station.
In April 2020, the station took on local radio presenter Johnny Owen, building a home studio to allow the presenter to perform a daily show during the COVID-19 pandemic and his own recovery from cancer. [3] In October 2020, Johnny Owen died from cancer. [4]
In October 2020, the station continued to hire new presenters, including a number of presenters made redundant from neighbouring commercial radio station Signal 2 after it was purchased by Bauer Media and rebranded as Greatest Hits Radio. [5]
In January 2021, Hitmix was found in breach of its Ofcom licence for failing to provide the required recordings of its output. [6]
The station's Key Commitments, set out in its licence, state that it must provide mainstream music from the 60s to the present day, along with "topics of local interest, airtime for charitable groups, interviews, studio guests, local news and national news bulletins". [7] Much of Hitmix's programming consists of popular music shows, with some specialist programming covering various music genres broadcast primarily at weekends. [8]
The station transmits on an FM frequency of 107.5 MHz with an ERP of 25 watts [9] from a transmission site adjacent to its studios in the village of Alsagers Bank, Staffordshire. [10] Coverage extends across the station's target area in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme as well as parts of neighbouring Stoke-on-Trent and the southern fringes of Cheshire.

Spark carries a variety of content catering for both mainstream and niche musical audiences, specialising in chart hits and new music throughout the day, and specialist programming after 7 p.m. The radio station broadcasts on 107.0FM and online via the station's website. The official launch of Spark took place at the new £12 million CitySpace building in the centre of the city of Sunderland.
Nova Radio North East, was an FM community radio station based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Launched in 2007, the station broadcasts 24 hours a day on 102.5 FM, and online via its website. The station is owned by CBIT. They were awarded a five-year community broadcast licence by Ofcom in 2006, which has since been extended to 2022.
Swindon 105.5 is a community non-for-profit radio station based in Swindon, England, launched in March 2008. The station manager is former BBC Wiltshire Sound, GWR FM and Swindon Viewpoint presenter, Shirley Ludford. Aside from Shirley being paid part-time, the station is run entirely by volunteers. Shirley also dedicates many voluntary hours each week. The station obtains its funding from grants, donations, fundraising events, training courses and limited on-air sponsorship.
