The In Crowd is a live album by the Ramsey Lewis Trio, recorded in 1965 at the Bohemian Caverns nightclub in Washington, D.C., and released on the Argo label. [1]
The album provided Lewis with his biggest hit, reaching the top position on the Billboard R&B Chart and No. 2 on their top 200 albums chart in 1965, and the title track single "The 'In' Crowd" reached No. 2 on the R&B Chart and No. 5 on the Hot 100 singles chart in the same year. [2]

Michael G. Nastos of AllMusic praised the album. As he proclaimed "this is the moment where Lewis shined the brightest, the 'in crowd' at the club was verbally into it, and the time for this music was right". [3]
The In Crowd won a Grammy in 1966 for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by an Individual or Group. As well the album's title track single was Grammy nominated for Record of the Year. In 2009 this said song was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. [7] [8]
Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis Jr. was an American jazz pianist, composer, and radio personality. Lewis recorded over 80 albums and received five gold records and three Grammy Awards in his career. His album The In Crowd earned Lewis critical praise and the 1965 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance. His best known singles include "The 'In' Crowd", "Wade in the Water", and "Sun Goddess". Until 2009, he was the host of the Ramsey Lewis Morning Show on the Chicago radio station WNUA.
"Misty" is a jazz standard written and originally recorded in 1954 by pianist Erroll Garner. He composed it as an instrumental in the traditional 32-bar format, and recorded it on July 27, 1954 for the album Contrasts. Lyrics were added later by Johnny Burke. It appeared on Johnny Mathis' 1959 album Heavenly, and this recording reached number 12 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart later that year. It has since become Mathis’ signature song.
