History

Larsen first met Warnock when he moved out of the Downtown Eastside. In 2014, they had a small performance on Halloween. [1] In 2015, Larsen met Partridge at animation school. The band is named after pigeons. [2] [3]

"When I moved to Vancouver, I lived in the Downtown Eastside in a really ratty old apartment. There were pigeons everywhere down there and I felt like I could relate to them, since they live in our city amongst us but they're not really a part of our culture." -Larsen as quoted by The Runner [2]

In 2017, they released their eponymous first album, The Jins on Bandcamp [4] In 2019, they released their EP, Death Wish. [5] On May 18, 2022, their single "Metro" peaked at #2 on the Canadian Breaking Alt chart. [6] In 2023, they released their album It's a Life, produced by Dave Genn and mixed by Adam Kasper, with 604 Records. [3] They released their 2024 single "Crutch" under the same record label. "Crutch" also peaked at #2 on the Canadian Breaking Alt chart on November 7, 2024. [6] [7] They have toured North America and shared the stage with artists including Buckcherry, Hockey Dad, and Rare Americans. [3] [8]

Musical Style

The Jins' music style has been likened to that of Nirvana, Weezer [9] , and the Strokes. They have also been described as various genres including grunge and punk [2] [10] The Jins have described their own sound as "fun rock." [1] [2] Their EP, Deathwish has been characterized as having grungy sound. [10] Their 2023 album, It's a Life was seen by some as a shift in the band's sound. It has been described as having a poppier, more diverse range of sounds while having more introspective lyrics when compared to their earlier work. [3] [11]
