Heart to Yours is the debut solo studio album by American singer and songwriter Michelle Williams. Released on April 16, 2002 by Sanctuary and Columbia Records, it became the first solo release of any Destiny's Child member. Production of the album began in 2001, with Williams working with an array of producers, including her brother Erron Williams, HR Crump and Warryn Campbell. Heart to Yours is primarily a gospel album, however it heavily incorporates elements of many other styles and genres such as neo-soul, inspirational, R&B and even rock music. The album's lyrical content and subject matter is also diverse and ranges from songs that glorify and praise God to tributes dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, which encourage those suffering in the aftermath of the attacks that the "sun will shine again".

Along with fellow musicians D'Angelo and Erykah Badu, Maxwell has been credited as an originator of the "neo soul" movement that rose to prominence during the late 1990s. He released his debut studio album Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite in 1996 to widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. The album was certified 2x Platinum and it was the first of four consecutive Platinum-selling studio albums. Maxwell released Embrya in 1998, Now in 2001 and BLACKsummers'night in 2009. BLACKsummers'night was nominated for 6 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year for "Pretty Wings". Maxwell released his fifth studio album blackSUMMERS'night in 2016. He has won 3 Grammy Awards out of 13 nominations, 6 Soul Train Music Awards and 2 NAACP Image Awards. Maxwell was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for "his innovative contributions to the music industry as a singer, songwriter, and producer" by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and Congressional Black Caucus in 2019.
Phoenix Rising is a 1998 album by the Temptations for the Motown label, featuring the debut of new Temptations Barrington "Bo" Henderson, Terry Weeks, and Harry McGilberry, following the departure of Ali-Ollie Woodson, who ended his contract with the group; as well as the final Temptations album for Theo Peoples, who Henderson replaced. The album, the Temptations' first million-selling album in over twenty years, features the hit single "Stay", which samples the group's 1965 hit "My Girl". Although not commercially released as a single, "Stay" was a Top 30 R&B Hit, peaking at #28. The Temptations' Phoenix Rising was certified Platinum by the RIAA on November 15, 1999, later reaching Double Platinum status. "Stay" also peaked at #1 on the Urban Adult Contemporary charts. Later singles "This Is My Promise" and "How Could He Hurt You" reached #3 and #5 respectively on the Urban AC charts as well.
Trin-i-tee 5:7 is an American gospel girl group formed in 1997. The original lineup composed of Chanelle Haynes, Angel Taylor, and Terri Brown-Britton. The group was launched into mainstream recognition following the release of their best-selling debut album, Trin-i-tee 5:7 (1998), which contained the top-charting gospel single "God's Grace". The album became certified gold. Despite critical and commercial success, the group experienced a lineup change when as Terri Brown left the group in 1999.

Chiefly produced by Warryn Campbell, the album comprises urban contemporary gospel, R&B and hip hop soul music. Angel & Chanelle is the fifth studio album by American girl group Trin-i-tee 5:7. It was released on May 31, 2011 by Music World Gospel. Following a career hiatus that reignited their creativity, Trin-i-tee 5:7 was inspired to create a record musically and lyrically more personal than their previous albums. Their collaborations with songwriters and record producers Rockwilder, Ronny "Flip" Colson, and the Surefire Music Group produced a mellower tone, developing diverse vocal styles and influences from hip hop, pop, and soul music. Angel & Chanelle is also Trin-i-tee 5:7's first album as a music duo, following the departure of Adrian Anderson in October 2010.
