The Lair is an exotic animal exhibit at the Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast, Australia. [2] It opened on 9 April 2011 with two white lions. [3] The exhibit is to be used for a variety of other animals in the future. [1]

History

On 16 February 2011, Ardent Leisure (the owners of Dreamworld) released their half year results report for the 2011 financial year. The report detailed an outlook for their 30th Birthday year. One of the items listed was an Easter holiday promotion where an exotic animal species will be showcased. [4] Two weeks prior, the Gold Coast Bulletin detailed the rumours of white lions coming to Dreamworld. [5] On 21 February 2011, Dreamworld officially announced via Facebook that white lions would be at Dreamworld for the April school holidays. [6] On 16 March 2011, plans for The Lair were released by Dreamworld. [7] On 9 April 2011, the attraction was officially opened to the public with two white lions. [3]

Exhibit

The Lair is themed to the Timbavati region in South Africa. The interactive exhibit features triple laminated glass panels which allow guests to view the animals up close. [8] The exhibit also features a second storey. This level features a glass-walled platform where trainers and paying guests can feed the animals. [9] [10]

Inhabitants

White lions

In April 2011 Dreamworld began a promotion where white lions were on temporary exhibition from National Zoo & Aquarium which was renovating its facilities. [5] On 30 March 2011, two lions, Jake and Mischka, were introduced into The Lair. [11] The exhibit housed these two lions on public display from 9 April through to 9 May. [9] [12] A second pair of lions, Archilles and Agamemnon, were featured in the exhibit from 16 May until 7 August 2011. [12] [13] [14] [15]

Tigers

On September 7, 2011, a new feeding experience with Dreamworld's existing Bengal and Sumatran tigers began at the park. Tigers from Tiger Island can be seen in The Lair. For a set fee, guests can tong-feed the tigers. [10] [16]

History of Dreamworld Aspect of history

The history of Dreamworld dates back to the mid-1970s when John Longhurst envisioned the future theme park. After a seven-year construction period, Dreamworld officially opened to the public on 15 December 1981. Now owned by publicly listed Ardent Leisure, the park has seen many expansions, closures and replacements over its 30-year history.

Pandamonium (ride) Amusement ride

Pandamonium is an amusement ride in the DreamWorks Experience area of Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, Australia. The Zamperla Air Race 6.4 ride is featured as one of Dreamworld's Big 9 Thrill Rides. As with the rest of the "Land of Awesomeness" area, the ride is themed to the Kung-Fu Panda films.

Zombie Evilution was a seasonal multi-use attraction at Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The attraction was originally introduced as a scare maze before being converted to a laser skirmish attraction. It opened on Friday the 13th of September 2013, replacing AVPX. From 2016, the attraction was used as a scare maze for Park After Dark events. The attraction closed in March 2018.
