The Latter Rain is the debut album by Norwegian progressive death metal band In Vain, released on March 29, 2007, in Europe by Indie Recordings. [1] The album was recorded at the Dub Studio, in Kristiansand, between June and October 2006, except from the Organ, recorded in Kristiansand Symfoniorkesters studio in Marvika, Kristiansand.

The album features a lot of guests, including producer Endre Kirkesola on organs, Jan Kenneth Transeth on vocals, and George Wright on spoken words. It gained a small, but positive, fan base and have currently a rating of 4.5/5 stars on allmusic.com [2] and sputnikmusic. [3] Some rare pressings of this record includes a bonus track "Epilogue: Alene" which was first released on their EP, "Wounds". [4] Both bassist/vocalist Kristian Wikstøl and guitarist Even Fuglestad were credited as band members on this record, even though they were not a part of the band when the album was recorded. Kristian Wikstøl sang some hardcore vocals as a guest. This is the last and only album to feature guitarist Magnus Olav Tveiten and bassist Ole Vistnes.

It was mixed by Stratovarius' Timo Tolkki, who also played additional lead guitar on "Out Of Control", and featured additional lead and backing vocals by Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian on "Out of Control" and the title track "Vain Glory Opera." Further choir vocals were supplied by Ralf Zdiarstek and Norman Meiritz. At the time of recording the album, Edguy had not yet chosen a permanent drummer to succeed Dominik Storch. The Crest was a gothic metal/darkwave band from Oslo, Norway noted for their gothic metal with catchy melodies, massive guitar sound, and a soothing female voice. The band was formed in 1996 by Nell and Kristian Sigland. After going through changes in name and line-up, the band settled on the name "The Crest" in 1999, after recording their second demo when they started to develop their characteristic sound.

Chain Collector is a heavy metal band from Norway that formed in 2003. Some of the members originated from other bands such as Green Carnation, Carpathian Forest, Trail of Tears, Dismal Euphony and In the Woods. In 2004, the Forthcoming Addiction demo, containing four songs, was recorded at DUB studio. The band signed a two album record deal with Sound Riot Records in September 2004, but due to the touring of some members with their other bands at the beginning the year, the production of The Masquerade was not finished until March 2005. In July 2005 the German label Massacre Records became interested in the band, and Sound Riot Records licensed the Chain Collector album to them. Massacre Records released The Masquerade in Europe, Canada, and Australia in November 2005, while Sound Riot Records released their edition in December 2005. The band parted ways with Sound Riot and released the second album, Unrestrained in 2007.

In Vain is a progressive death metal band from Kristiansand in Norway. Their music can be described as melodic extreme metal, and it is composed by their guitarist Johnar Håland. The band has released five albums, and toured Europe with Solefald in 2013 and My Silent Wake in 2010. In Vain has also played concerts in Norway, and also played at the Inferno Metal Festival in 2013.
