The Local Independent Party is an Australian political party that competes in local elections in New South Wales. [1]
Unlike many other local government political parties in Australia, the party competes in several different councils.
The party was formed ahead of the 2017 New South Wales local elections. Two councillors who were formerly members of the Liberal Party − John Hugh (Parramatta) and Nasr Kafrouni (Cumberland) − joined the party. [2]
At the elections, the party received 0.65% of the total statewide vote but was not successful in getting any candidates elected. [3] [4]
The party did not contest the 2021 New South Wales local elections, although is still registered with the New South Wales Electoral Commission. [5]
The Hills Shire is a local government area in the Greater Sydney region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is north-west of the Sydney central business district, and encompasses 401 square kilometres (155 sq mi) stretching from the M2 Hills Motorway in the south to Wiseman's Ferry on the Hawkesbury River in the north.
