The Oaks is a historic home and slave plantation located in Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland (considered Elkridge, near Ellicott's Mills when built).
The house is situated on a land tract named Joshua's Addition patented in 1723 by Joshua Sewall fronting an Indian trail latter named Claggett Road. In 1778 Thomas Cockey sold the land to John Merriken. The land passed to Caleb Dorsey who sold it to the Hare family in 1840. The property featured a cedar tree walkway dated to 1789. An original eighteenth-century stone house was modified to a flat-roofed Italiante structure in 1856 by ship captain Robert H Hare, who also built and lived at the Linwood building. In 1864, Jehanne Elvira Hopkins moved from the South with her slaves and bought the land including Mt. Misery and Oeall Enlarged. A tenant house and slave quarters collapsed in the 1960s. The Commodore Joshua Barney House is a historic home located at Savage, Howard County, Maryland, United States. It was originally situated on a 700-acre tract in modern Savage Maryland named Harry's Lot, at a time when the closest town was Elk Ridge. In 1809, Nathaniel F. Williams (1782-1864) married Caroline Barney, daughter of Joshua Barney, who in turn expanded an existing mill site on the property to create the Savage Mill.
MacAlpine, Rebecca's Lot is a historic home located at Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland, United States. It was built by wealthy Baltimore attorney, James Mackubin, for his second wife, Gabriella Peter, a great-great-granddaughter of Martha Washington. She grew up at nearby Linwood, the daughter of Maj. George Washington Parke Custis Peter, who was the second son of Martha Parke Custis Peter of Tudor Place, Georgetown. She attended the famed Patapsco Female Institute and was a leading society member in Maryland. She was a cousin of Robert E. Lee's wife and his children spent many summers here after his death. Gabriella was known to be gracious but demanding. She initially lived at nearby Grey Rock but refused to stay there long as her husband had shared that home with his first wife. Her daughters were unable to leave her side during her lifetime, especially after the accidental 1903 death of her youngest son, Parke Custis, rendering them middle-aged spinsters at the time of her death.
Waverly Mansion is a historic home located at Marriottsville in Howard County, Maryland, USA. It was built circa 1756, and is a 2 1⁄2-story Federal style stone house, covered with stucco, with a hyphen and addition that date to circa 1811. Also on the property are a small 1 1⁄2-story stone overseer's cottage and a 2-story frame-and-stone barn, and the ruins of a log slave quarter.
Font Hill Manor is a historic slave plantation located in Ellicott City, Maryland in Howard County. The house is situated on property surveyed by Daniel Kendall as "Kendall's Delight". The building is constructed of local Granite in three sections. The first is a four by two bay building. The second five by two bay section was built in the early 1800s, which re-oriented the front entrance. A third four by two bay wing was added in the early 1900s.
St. Marys College was a Roman Catholic school in Ilchester, Maryland near modern Ellicott City, Maryland in Howard County. The ruins are near Ilchester and Bonnie Branch roads. The upper college building was built in 1868 consisting of a cupola topped eighteen bay by five bay building with a five by five bay projection. A three by three bay, five story "L" shaped addition is included, with all of the structure on a stone foundation. A three-story chapel was attached to the building in 1882. In 1934 a fifth floor was added throughout. A statue of Madonna with Child was situated in a niche.

The lands that became Oakland Manor were patented by John Dorsey as "Dorsey's Adventure" in 1688 which was willed to his grandson Edward Dorsey. In 1785, Luther Martin purchased properties named "Dorsey's Adventure", "Dorsey's Inheritance", "Good for Little", "Chew's Vineyard", and "Adam the First" to make the 2300 acre "Luther Martin's Elkridge Farm".

Linwood is a historic home located at Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland, United States. The seventeen room brick house was built by slave labor in the early 1800s. Portions of the farm were subdivided into several 3-5 acre lots in the late 1800s, with strict setbacks and provisions to maintain the neighborhood, including banning stores and outbuildings. Keeping the neighborhood character protected is still an issue in present times, with development proposals in 2015.
