The Panther and the Lash is an album by American free jazz trumpeter and trombonist Clifford Thornton, recorded live in 1970 in Paris, originally released on the French America label, and reissued on CD in 2004 by Universal France.
Thornton leads a quartet with two local musicians from the French free jazz scene—pianist François Tusques and bassist Beb Guérin—and the expatriate American drummer Noel McGhie. The title of the album references the American poet Langston Hughes's final book. The leader own's composition "Huey Is Free" celebrates the release of the founder of the Black Panther Party, Huey P. Newton. [1]

Yasmina, a Black Woman is a jazz album by Archie Shepp, recorded in 1969 in Paris for BYG Actuel. It features musicians from the Art Ensemble of Chicago. The first track, giving its title to the album, is a long free jazz piece by an 11-piece orchestra; in it, the references to Africa that Shepp had experimented with only a few weeks earlier in Algiers are to be found in the use of African percussion instruments, or the African incantations sung by Shepp himself at the beginning of the track. The other two pieces, a homage to Sonny Rollins written by trombonist Grachan Moncur III and a standard, played by a more traditional quintet and quartet respectively, are more reminiscent of the hard bop genre, although the fiery playing of the musicians, notably Shepp himself, gives them a definite avant-garde edge. It was originally issued on CD by Affinity, mastered from an incredibly noisy vinyl source and later reissued by Charly from the original master tapes.
Live in Antibes is a live album by Archie Shepp and the Full Moon Ensemble recorded at the Juan les Pins Jazz Festival in Antibes, France, on July 18, 1970. It was originally released on the BYG Actuel label in two volumes and re-released as a double CD in 2002. The album features a performance by Shepp, Clifford Thornton, Alan Shorter, Joseph Dejean, Beb Guerin and Claude Delcloo.

Freedom & Unity is an album by valve trombonist Clifford Thornton. It was recorded in July 1967 at Sound City Studios in New York City, and was released by Third World Records in 1969. The album was released on CD in 2004 by Psi Records.
