The Wknd is a media company based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and produces music events and digital video content that focuses on Southeast Asian music.
The Wknd was founded in 2008 by Fikri Fadzil, together with a team of volunteers from the Malaysian music scene. It started as a hobby and passion project, where the team got together on one weekend to record live music performances by Malaysian independent musicians - hence the moniker Wknd.
The series of music video content was named The Wknd Sessions , and has been one of the longest-running music series in Southeast Asia. The series has cemented The Wknd's place as a tastemaker, through new discoveries and early indie scene stars. [1]
Since its inception, The Wknd has left an indelible mark on the regional music scene, establishing itself as the go-to source for those seeking out the freshest unsigned and independent music from Malaysia and Southeast Asia. [2]

The Wknd's central premise was about raising awareness on the undiscovered artists who, despite their lack of mainstream popularity, was actively pursuing a music career through small gigs and music showcases. Many of these artists were also releasing material, through DIY efforts and the limited access to Internet and the social media of the time (mainly Myspace).
While starting out predominantly covering the Malaysian independent music scene, The Wknd's focus has grown to cover other countries in Southeast Asia. Since its founding, they have also covered acts from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Despite this increase in regional coverage, The Wknd's primary music focus has remained consistent - covering little-known acts that have talent and potential.
The Wknd has also been called upon in the past to interview international acts that have toured to Malaysia. Some of the more prominent acts include Franz Ferdinand, Dune Rats, Deerhoof, Bo Ningen, Tonstartssbandht, Postiljonen, Mac Demarco and Ash.

Aside from The Wknd Sessions being seen by musicians as a way to get discovered, The Wknd is also responsible for directly unearthing raw talent through its The Wknd Recording Fund initiative. This is a talent discovery platform, where up-and-coming talent submit their material for consideration by The Wknd team. Together with its appointed panel of judges, composed of prominent figures in the Southeast Asian independent music scene, one winner is selected and is awarded a record deal. With this deal, The Wknd produces and releases a single for the winning artist.

Kitarō (喜多郎), born Masanori Takahashi, is a Japanese recording artist, composer, record producer, and arranger noted for his electronic-instrumental music, and is often associated with and regarded as one of the most prominent musical acts of new-age music. He won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album for Thinking of You (1999), with a record 16 nominations in the same category. He received a Golden Globe Award for the original score to Heaven & Earth (1993).
Stoney is a British musician, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and performer. To date he has released 3 solo albums and six E.P's under his performer name of Stoney. Known for his sharp lyrics and classic melodies, he first came to prominence in the "New Yorkshire" music scene in the mid-2000s touring and working alongside acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Long Blondes and Reverend and the Makers. Following relocation to Austin, Texas in 2009, he became a founding member, songwriter and guitarist of acclaimed "dirt-pop" band Bobby Jealousy, who released two full-length albums between 2012 and 2014, before resuming his solo career back in the UK.

The 30-minute program is primarily produced in the San Francisco Bay Area with segments from other parts of the country, including Los Angeles and New York.
Sound on Sound is a monthly music technology magazine. The magazine includes product tests of electronic musical performance and recording devices, and interviews with industry professionals. Due to its technical focus, it is predominantly aimed at the professional recording studio market as well as artist project studios and home recording enthusiasts.

Trisno Ishak, known professionally as Trisno, is a singer and teacher from Singapore. In 2000, he was the lead singer of Urban Xchange, which evolved to Parking Lot Pimp. He has performed alongside Stacy Orrico, Jamie Cullum, Jay Sean, Missy Higgins and Ben and Joey of The Click Five. He collaborated with John Lennon, Brian McKnight, Mr. Cheeks from The Lost Boyz, Malaysian hip-hop duo Too Phat, Malaysian singer Camelia, Singaporean rapper Sheikh Haikel, and Taiwanese pop singer Evonne. With his sizzling buttery voice, Trisno has captivated local and international audience. Coupled along with his versatility in music and adept talent at working the crowd, he is described as "the guy who was born to be a performer".

She was born in Taiping, Perak Malaysia but mainly grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Lian is an actor versatile in film, television and theatre. Currently, her entertainment career spans across North America and Asia. Lian gained fame when she was voted FHM Malaysia's No. 1 Most Wanted Woman on their Top 100 list.
