Thierry Wouters (born 12 July 1979) is a Belgian former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. [1] He is a single-time Olympian (2000) and a former Belgian record holder in the 50 and 100 m freestyle.
Wouters made an international headline at the 1999 European Short Course Swimming Championships, when he set a Belgian record of 22.35 to earn a sixth spot in the 50 m freestyle. [2]
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Wouters competed in a sprint freestyle double. He posted FINA B-standards of 22.92 (50 m freestyle) and 50.50 (100 m freestyle) from the Belgian Championships in Antwerp. [3] [4] [5] In the 100 m freestyle, Wouters placed thirty-second on the morning's prelims. Swimming in heat seven, he edged out Finland's Jere Hård to pick up a seventh spot by four-hundredths of a second (0.04) in 51.07. [6] Two days later, in the 50 m freestyle, Wouters challenged seven other swimmers in heat six, including Ukraine's rising favorite Oleksandr Volynets and Lithuania's Rolandas Gimbutis, the tallest swimmer at the Games. Because one swimmer out of the race for no false-start rule, Wouters rounded out the field to last place and thirty-ninth overall in 23.44, more than half a second (0.50) off his record and entry time. Yoris Grandjean is a Belgian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He won two gold medals at the 2006 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships, and later represented Belgium at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Since 2009, he still currently holds a Belgian record (22.13) in the 50 m freestyle from the national championships in Antwerp. Grandjean also trains for Liège Swimming Club under his head coach Andre Henvaux.
Ravil Nachaev is an Uzbek former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. He is a three-time Olympian, and a gold medalist in the 50 m freestyle at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.

Sergey Ashihmin (Russian: Серге́й Ашихмин; is a Russian-born Kyrgyzstani former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a former Kyrgyzstan record holder in the 50 and 100 m freestyle. While playing for the Russian senior team, Ashihmin also earned a silver medal, along with Denis Pimankov, Dmitry Chernyshov, and double Olympic champion Alexander Popov, in the 4×100 m freestyle relay at the 1999 European Aquatics Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
Ríkarður Ríkarðsson is an Icelandic former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Rikardsson competed only in two individual events at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He achieved FINA B-standards of 56.22 from the U.S. National Championships in Federal Way, Washington, and 52.42 from the European Championships in Helsinki, Finland. In the 100 m freestyle, Rikardsson placed fifty-eighth on the morning prelims. Swimming in heat three, he picked up a fourth seed by 0.63 of a second behind winner Paul Kutscher of Uruguay in 52.85. Two days later, in the 100 m butterfly, Rikardsson challenged seven other swimmers in heat two, including Guam's 28-year-old Daniel O'Keeffe and Bosnia's three-time Olympian Janko Gojković. He blasted a new Icelandic record of 56.11 to take a sixth spot and forty-eighth overall, finishing behind winner Gojkovic by almost two-thirds of a second (0.66).
Tamer Hamed Ali Zinhom Muhammad is an Egyptian former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. He is a two-time Olympian, and an Egyptian record holder in the 50 m freestyle.
Howard Xavier Hinds is a Curaçao former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a member of the Fort Lauderdale Swim Team, under head coach Jack Nelson.
Rodrigo Olivares Aramburu is a retired Chilean swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. Olivares competed only in a sprint freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He achieved FINA B-standards of 23.32 and 52.31 from the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In the 100 m freestyle, Olivares placed sixty-two on the morning prelims. Swimming in heat five, he rounded out the field to last place by almost a full second behind Zimbabwe's Glen Walshaw in 53.50. Two days later, in the 50 m freestyle, Olivares participated in heat five against seven other swimmers, including three-time Olympians Richard Sam Bera of Indonesia and Allan Murray of the Bahamas, top 16 finalist in Atlanta four years earlier. Failing to improve his standard, he settled only for seventh place and fifty-fifth overall in 54.50, a 1.38-second deficit behind winner Ravil Nachaev of Uzbekistan.
Huang Chih-yung is a Taiwanese former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a bronze medalist at the 1998 Asian Games.
Karina Helene Muller is a South African former swimmer, who specialised in sprint and middle-distance freestyle events. She represented South Africa in two editions of the Olympic Games, and later captured two silver medals each in sprint freestyle and medley relay at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Leah Simone Martindale-Stancil is a Barbadian former competition swimmer who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Martindale represented Barbados in two editions of the Olympic Games, where she became the first black female in history to reach an Olympic swimming final in the 50 m freestyle. She also holds three Barbadian records in a sprint freestyle double and in the 50 m butterfly, and twelve All-American honors, while attending the University of Florida.
Siobhan Trichelle Cropper is a 2-time Olympian and swimmer from Trinidad and Tobago, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Cropper represented Trinidad and Tobago in two editions of the Olympic Games, and eventually captured the 100 m butterfly title at the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She also holds three Trinidadian records in a sprint freestyle and butterfly double, two NCAA championship titles and fourteen All-American honors, while attending Stanford University.

Nicholas Folker is a South African former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He captured two medals at the 1999 All-Africa Games, and later represented South Africa at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Folker was schooled in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. His primary years were spent at Cowan House Preparatory School, after which he attended Michaelhouse. In recognition of his achievements and dedication to swimming, Michaelhouse renamed one of its swimming pools the Folker Pool. While moving on to reside in the United States, Folker achieved school records in a sprint freestyle double and also trained for the University of Hawaii's swimming and diving team, also known as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, under the tutelage of head coach Sam Freas.
Aleksandr Shilin is a Russian-born Kyrgyzstani former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle and sprint backstroke events. He represented his adopted nation Kyrgyzstan at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and posted top-ten times in 50 m backstroke from the European and Russian Swimming Masters.
