Things Have Changed is a studio album by Bettye LaVette. It was released in March 2018 through Verve Records. The album features songs originally written and sung by Bob Dylan. [2]

Contents

The album received a nomination for Best Americana Album and "Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight" received a nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. [6]

Greil Marcus, writing in the Village Voice, named it the best album of 2018. [7]

Lavette's arrangement of the title track has proven influential. Both Margo Price and Adia Victoria have performed the song live in arrangements directly inspired by LaVette's. [8] [9]

Her next album, The Scene of the Crime, debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart and was nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 2008 Grammy Awards. She received the Legacy of Americana Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Americana Music Honors & Awards.

Leroy Leon Pendarvis is an American session musician. He plays keyboards and is a background vocalist. He is also an occasional guitarist. The artists he has worked with over the years include Bonnie Raitt on her Streetlights album which was released in 1974, Van McCoy on his Disco Baby album which was released in 1975, Barbra Streisand on her Songbird album which was released in 1978, Eric Clapton on his August album which was released in 1986, Don Johnson on his Let It Roll album which was released in 1989, Avril Lavigne on her Keep Holding On album which was released on 2007, and many more. He was at one time a member of the group Passion. He is also the musical director and conductor for NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL) Band, with which he has played since 1980. Since 1986 he has been a member of The Blues Brothers band. He was the husband of singer and chorist Janice Pendarvis, who sang for Roberta Flack, Sting, Philip Glass, David Bowie, and the Naked Brothers Band.

The album consists of cover versions of songs written by American musician singer-songwriter Randall Bramblett, whom LaVette called "the best writer that I have heard in the last 30 years". It was produced by Steve Jordan and includes collaborations with Pedrito Martinez, Steve Winwood, Anthony Hamilton, Ray Parker Jr., Charles Hodges, John Mayer and Jon Batiste. LaVette embarked on a tour in mid-2023 in support of the album.
