Greville Thomas Scott Stevens was an English amateur cricketer who played for Middlesex,the University of Oxford and England. A leg-spin and googly bowler and attacking batsman,he captained England in one Test match,in South Africa in 1927. He was widely regarded as one of the leading amateur cricketers of his generation who,because of his commitments outside cricket,was unable to fulfil his potential and left the game early.
Arthur James Ledger Hill was an English cricketer and played Test cricket for England in 1896. In first-class cricket,he began his career playing for Cambridge University while studying at Jesus College,Cambridge. He would play the majority of his first-class cricket for Hampshire,for whom he made 161 appearances between 1895 and 1921. Early in his career,Hill was a "useful fast bowler" and would take 305 first-class wickets during his career,the majority of which came prior to 1900. As a batsman,he scored over 10,000 runs in first-class cricket,recording nineteen centuries. He was notable for scoring the first-ever first-class century in India,which he made touring with Lord Hawke's XI in January 1893. His sporting endeavours also extended to rugby union and field hockey,with him representing Hampshire in both.
Allan Frederick Tinsdale White was an English amateur first-class cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman who played for both Warwickshire and Worcestershire,captaining the latter county between 1947 and 1949,though sharing the captaincy with Bob Wyatt in the last of those three seasons. He also played for Cambridge University,as well as making a single appearance for Free Foresters. Curiously,he passed fifty 26 times without ever going on to score a century.
Charles Anderson Fiddian Fiddian-Green was an English cricketer:an opening batsman who played 107 first-class matches between the wars,playing county cricket for both Warwickshire and Worcestershire,as well as university cricket for Cambridge University.
John Ashby Lester was an American cricketer,active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries,and a teacher. Lester was one of the Philadelphian cricketers who played from the end of the 19th century until the outbreak of World War I. His obituary in Wisden Cricketers' Almanack,described him as "one of the great figures in American cricket." During his career,he played in 53 matches for the Philadelphians,47 of which are considered first class. From 1897 until his retirement in 1908,Lester led the batting averages in Philadelphia and captained all the international home matches.
Michael Burns is an English first-class list cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Warwickshire and Somerset in a first-class career which spanned from 1992 until 2005. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Cumberland and Cornwall. An adaptable cricketer,he appeared for Cumberland and Warwickshire as a wicket-keeper,but when he moved to Somerset he developed into an aggressive batsman who bowled at medium-pace when needed.
Thomas Ormsby Jameson was an Irish first-class cricketer and a soldier British Army. As a cricketer,he made 124 appearances in first-class cricket as an all-rounder. He was mostly associated with the British Army cricket team,Hampshire,and the Marylebone Cricket Club,though he also represented Ireland twice. In first-class cricket,he scored nearly 4,700 runs and took over 250 wickets. In the British Army,he was an officer in the Rifle Brigade,with whom he served in the first part of the First World War,before serving with the West African Frontier Force. A major shareholder in Jameson Irish Whiskey,he was dsecended from its founder John Jameson.
William Robert de la Cour Shirley was an English cricketer and a colonial police officer in British Nigeria. He played over sixty first-class matches,mostly for Cambridge University and Hampshire.
Christopher Herbert Millington Greetham played first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club from 1957 to 1966 as a middle-order batsman and a medium-pace bowler. Greetham was a tall,fair-haired right-handed batsman usually used in Somerset's late middle order and a right-arm seam bowler who,for a couple of seasons in the early 1960s,took enough wickets to be classed as an all-rounder. He was considered a good cover fielder,with a strong and accurate throw.
James Noel Bruce Bovill is an English former cricketer who played first-class cricket predominantly for Hampshire from 1993 to 1997.
