Trap shooting, or trapshooting in North America, is one of the three major disciplines of competitive clay pigeon shooting, which is shooting shotguns at clay targets. The other disciplines are skeet shooting and sporting clays.
Double trap is a shotgun shooting sport, one of the ISSF shooting events. Participants use a shotgun to attempt to break a clay disk flung away from the shooter at high speed.
The men's trap competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on August 14 and 15 at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. There were 35 competitors from 26 nations, with each nation having up to two shooters.
Russell Andrew Mark, is an Australian Olympic Champion Shooter. He won the Olympic gold medal in double trap at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He also won an Olympic silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He has competed at six Olympic Games: 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012. The only Australian Summer Olympian to compete in more Olympiads is Andrew Hoy, who competed in seven.
Susanne Kiermayer is a retired German sport shooter. Kiermayer had won a total of nine medals for both trap and double trap shooting at the ISSF World Cup series. She also captured a silver medal in the same discipline at the 1998 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Barcelona, Spain, striking a total of 91 clay pigeons. Kiermayer is currently a vice-president of the German Shooting Federation.
Yelena Anatolyevna Tkach is a Russian sport shooter. Representing the former Soviet Union, Tkach won a silver medal in the women's double trap at the 1991 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Perth, Australia, with a total score of 121 clay pigeons. She also defeated Lithuania's Daina Gudzinevičiūtė by one point for the gold medal in the women's trap at the 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Lahti, Finland, accumulating a score of 93 targets. Tkach is also a member of the shooting team for Dynamo Voronezh, and is coached and trained by her teammate and two-time Olympian Maxim Kosarev.
Lin Yi-chun is a Taiwanese sport shooter. She won two medals, gold and silver, in the women's double trap, at the 2001 and 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Cairo, Egypt and Lahti, Finland, respectively. She also captured a bronze medal in the women's trap at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, accumulating a score of 80 clay pigeons and a bonus of 1 target from a shoot-off.
Rodrigo Pimentel Bastos is a Brazilian sport shooter. He represented his nation Brazil in two editions of the Olympic Games, and also picked up a silver medal in men's trap at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Taeko Takeba is a Japanese trap shooter. She won a gold medal in the women's trap at the 2001 ISSF World Cup final in Doha, Qatar, achieved a fifth-place finish at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, and represented her nation Japan in two editions of the Olympic Games. During her sporting career, Takeba trained full-time for the Ehime Clay Shooting Association under her personal coach Atsushi Otsuke
Petri Nummela is a Finnish sport shooter. He was selected to compete for Finland at the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing fourteenth in trap shooting. Having pursued the sport since the age of fourteen, Nummela trained full-time for Lahti Shooting Club in Lahti under his personal coach and brother Matti Nummela.
Khaled Al-Mudhaf is a Kuwaiti sport shooter. He captured the men's trap title at the 2002 ISSF World Championships in Lahti, Finland, and finished in the top six respectively on two successive editions of the Olympic Games. Apart from his World championship title, Al-Mudhaf also collected fourteen more medals to his career record, including two from the Asian Games. Al-Mudhaf is a member of the Kuwait City Shooting Club, where he trains full-time under Russian-born coach Rustam Yambulatov.
Mashfi Al-Mutairi is a Kuwaiti sport shooter. He won a bronze medal in double trap shooting at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand, and was eventually selected to compete for the Kuwaiti team in two editions of the Olympic Games. Al-Mutairi is a member of the Kuwait City Shooting Club, where he trains full-time under Italian-born coach and 1996 Olympian Mirco Cenci.
Nidal Asmar is a Lebanese-born Australian sport shooter. Holding his dual citizenship to compete internationally for his native homeland, Asmar placed fourteenth in trap shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and eventually shot a perfect 125 to break his own world record at the 2007 Australian Cup in his current residence Melbourne, Australia.
Stephen Thomas "Steve" Haberman is an Australian sport shooter. He captured the men's double trap title at the 1995 ISSF World Shotgun Championships in Nicosia, and had the opportunity to represent Australia in two editions of the Olympic Games. Haberman currently trains for Echuca Ghil Target Club in his native Geelong, under Azerbaijani-born coach and three-time Olympic skeet shooter Valeri Timokhin.
Saleem Al-Nasri is an Omani sport shooter who competes in the double trap at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Susan Maree Trindall is an Australian sport shooter. She has won a career tally of five medals, including a gold in women's double trap shooting under junior division at the 2001 ISSF World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, and had a golden opportunity to represent Australia at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Trindall is also a member of Showman's Clay Target Shooting Range and the Australian Clay Target Shooting Association, where she trains full-time under head coach Greg Chan.
Yelena Vladimirovna Dudnik is a Russian sport shooter. She attained top four finishes in double trap shooting at the European Championships, and had a golden opportunity to represent Russia at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, finishing ninth in the process. Dudnik trains full-time as a member of the shooting team for Dynamo Rostov under personal coach Irina Kravtchuk.
Megumi Inoue is a Japanese sport shooter. She has produced a career tally of six medals, including two golds in women's double trap shooting at the Asian Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and also finished fifth at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Inoue serves and trains full-time as a member of the Japanese Clay Target Shooting Association, under head coach Hiroshi Teranishi.
Roberta Pelosi is an Italian sport shooter. She has been selected to compete for Italy at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and has established a career tally of eighteen medals in a major international competition, including a world-record breaking gold at the 1998 ISSF World Cup meet in Cairo, Egypt and a silver in women's trap at the 2003 World Shotgun Championships in Nicosia, Cyprus. Pelosi is a member of Valle Aniene Target Shooting Club, and a resident athlete of the Italian Clay Shooting Federation, where she trains under head coach and 1996 Olympic double trap medalist Albano Pera.
The shotgun is the name of the sport discipline assigned in the international shooting sports competitions, organized by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), which includes the three clay shooting disciplines of trap, double trap and skeet.
