Margaret M. LaMontagne Spellings is an American government and non-profit executive who has been serving as President and CEO of Texas 2036 since 2019. She previously served as the eighth United States secretary of education from 2005 to 2009. After leaving the government,Spellings served as president of the University of North Carolina System,overseeing the seventeen campus system from 2016 to 2019. In June 2023,Spellings was named the new CEO of the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington,DC.
The Confederate Monument,University of North Carolina,commonly known as Silent Sam,is a bronze statue of a Confederate soldier by Canadian sculptor John A. Wilson,which once stood on McCorkle Place of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) from 1913 until it was pulled down by protestors on August 20,2018. Its former location has been described as "the front door" of the university and "a position of honor".

Dale Robbins Folwell is an American politician who has been the North Carolina State Treasurer since 2017. A Republican from Winston-Salem,North Carolina,Folwell spent four terms in North Carolina House of Representatives,including a term as speaker pro tempore from 2011 to 2013. He was head of the state's Division of Employment Security in the administration of Governor Pat McCrory from 2013 to 2015. He was elected State Treasurer in the 2016 election,taking office on January 1,2017. Folwell was reelected to a second term in 2020,defeating Democratic challenger Ronnie Chatterji.
Harvey Cloyd Philpott was an American businessman and politician who served as the 24th Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in 1961. Philpott grew up in Lexington,North Carolina. Following the completion of his education,he rose to become president and chairman of the board of the United Furniture Corporation. He held several local political offices before being elected to a seat in the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1953 as a Democrat.
Suzanne Reynolds is a law professor and dean emerita at Wake Forest University School of Law. She is the first woman to head the school,and was named dean after serving four years as executive associate dean for academic affairs.
James Alexander Gray Jr. was a president and chairman of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem,North Carolina. He was the brother of fellow R.J. Reynolds president Bowman Gray Sr. He also served as a North Carolina state senator for two terms and as a philanthropist,donated to a variety of educational causes in North Carolina.
The 1898 North Carolina Tar Heels football team represented the University of North Carolina in the 1898 college football season. They played nine games with a final record of 9–0. The team captain for the 1898 season was Frank O. Rogers. The team claims a Southern championship.
Stuart O. Bondurant FRCPE was professor and dean emeritus at the UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill,North Carolina. As dean,he was noted for his efforts to expand the university's hospital system,and for leading improvements in the school's curriculum. In particular,he is recognized for his efforts to reduce infant mortality in North Carolina in his capacity as chair of the Governor's Commission on the Reduction of Infant Mortality.
Sam Howell is an American football quarterback for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at North Carolina,setting school records for most touchdown passes in a single season (38) as well as career passing yards (10,283) and touchdown passes (92). Howell was selected by the Commanders in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The 1918 North Carolina SATC football team informally represented the University of North Carolina in the 1918 college football season. The University of North Carolina (UNC) does not officially recognize these games in their record books because they were organized under the auspices of the Student Army Training Corps rather than the school itself. Because of this,no varsity letters were given for the season.
