Thud was an death-doom band from Washington, D.C. The band comprised vocalist Robert Dotolo, drummer Gregg Hudson, bassist Chris Rasley and guitarist Adam Rutland, who played a combination of death-doom, stoner and thrash metal. They released the full-length studio album Life & Death and the EP Inevitable in 1992 and 1993 respectively before disbanding.

History

Thud was formed in 1990 by vocalist Robert Dotolo, drummer Gregg Hudson, bassist Chris Rasley and guitarist Adam Rutland out of Washington, D.C. The band recorded at Oz Studio in Baltimore and in 1992 released their first studio album Life & Death on Fifth Colvmn Records, marking the label's second release after Chemlab's 1990 EP 10 Ton Pressure . [1] The album was executive-produced by Zalman Fishman and contains guest contributions from vocalist Jared Louche of Chemlab, keyboardist Eli Janney of Girls Against Boys and musician Barrett Jones of Visqueen. [2] [3] Thud re-entered the studio at Uncle Punchy Studios to record music for the Inevitable EP, which was released in 1993 on two 7" vinyls by Fifth Colvmn Records. [4] The album contains two different versions of the song "Score" and remains Thud's final release. Thud performed a series of five lives shows at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. between May 27, 1992 and July 30, 1993 to support their music. [5]

On April 14, 2015 Thud's song "Ventilator", the lead track of Life & Death, was played on Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine: Playlist on WMUC-FM. [6] In September 2018, Thud received some airplay again on WMUC-FM when Gary Young of The Drooling Zoomers DJed the songs "Conflict" [7] and "Search" [8] on his scheduled program The Irrelevant Show, which plays classic west-coast songs from the 1990s. [9]

Acumen Nation is an American industrial rock band from Chicago, Illinois.

Chemlab is an American industrial rock band formed in Washington D.C. in 1989 by Dylan Thomas More, Joe Frank, and Jared Louche. Influenced by the pioneers of the industrial genre, such as Throbbing Gristle, Chemlab mixed experimental sounds with rock and metal within an electronic framework. They released their first EP 10 Ton Pressure (1990), parted ways with Frank and moved to New York City, their base for the duration of their career. Chemlab released their debut album Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar in 1993 and toured with acts such as White Zombie, KMFDM, Nine Inch Nails, 16volt, and GWAR.

Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar is the debut studio album of industrial rock band Chemlab, released on March 22, 1993 by Fifth Colvmn and Metal Blade Records. It represents the band's only studio release via the label Metal Blade and was reissued by Invisible Records on November 30, 1999. Each "suture" is an instrumental piece splitting the main tracks apart. The track "Suicide Jag" was featured in the game Saints Row: The Third. The album was produced by Jeff "Critter" Newell and has been considered by critics to be a defining moment within the coldwave genre. In 2018 Chemlab embarked on a tour featuring Dead on TV and GoFight members Daniel Evans, Vince McAley, and Mike Love backing Louche to celebrate the twenty fifth anniversary of the Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar.

East Side Militia is the second studio album by Chemlab, released on October 8, 1996 by Fifth Colvmn and Metal Blade Records. Its original title was supposed to be "Jesus Christ Porno Star". It was re-released on November 30, 1999 by Martin Atkins' label Invisible Records with two additional tracks, "Vera Blue" remixed by PIG and "Exile on Mainline" remixed by haloblack.

<i>10 Ton Pressure</i> 1990 EP by Chemlab

10 Ton Pressure is the debut EP of the industrial rock band Chemlab, released in 1990 by Fifth Colvmn Records. The duo of Dylan Thomas Moore and Joe Frank on synthesizers later teamed up with Jared Hendrickson to create this EP. It was financed by Zalman Fishman, a nightclub owner who founded the now defunct Fifth Colvmn Records. Zalman became involved when he was introduced to Joe Frank through a mutual friend.

Fifth Colvmn Records was a record label based in Washington, DC. The label was founded in 1990 by Zalman Fishman, owner of the nightclub FIFTH COLVMN, located in Washington D.C.

Diatribe was an industrial rock group from San Jose, California which was active in the 1990s. They had a sound similar to 16 Volt and Chemlab, integrating synthesizers and vocal samples with more traditional rock instruments. The band's full-length debut Diatribe was released by Cargo Music and Re-Constriction Records on November 3, 1996.

Dessau were an American industrial rock band based out of Nashville, Tennessee. The band was founded by John Elliott, who worked with a revolving cast of musicians to create Dessau's music. Jared Louche is an American musician best recognized as the front-man of industrial rock outfit Chemlab. He also founded the band H3llb3nt and has collaborated with Pigface, Progrex.iv and Vampire Rodents. He released a solo album, titled Covergirl in 1999.

Death Ride 69 were a tribal industrial garage band that formed in Los Angeles led by Linda LeSabre (Beatmistress). The original incarnation was a duo consisting of guitarist Don Diego and vocalist Linda LeSabre. Marco Gariboldi of Fabryka called the album "a crescendo of harsh guitars, distortions and hammering drums directed by the high and charismatic voice of Linda" and "a very good album by an underrated and forgotten band." Aiding & Abetting was more critical, saying "the general lack of creative thought in the songwriting is pretty distressing" and claiming the band was "scraping the bottom of the barrel."

Frenzied Computer Resonance is a various artists compilation album released in 1994 by Fifth Colvmn Records. The collection comprises tracks by Acumen, Chemlab, haloblack and Perceptual Outer Dimensions, which were released on their albums Transmissions from Eville (1994), Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar (1993), Tension Filter (1994) and The Journey to Planet POD (1994).

Fifth Colvmn Records was founded in 1990 by Zalman Fishman, with vocalist Jared Louche employed as general manager, and was recognized for its industrial music roster. The label made its debut with an EP, titled 10 Ton Pressure, by the industrial rock group Chemlab and in 1993 released the band's critically acclaimed studio album Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar. The label dissolved in 1997 and made its final release the various artists compilation World War Underground.

Sun God were a European electronic music group comprising musicians Rodney Orpheus, Marcus Giltjes, and Patricia Nigiani. The band released one studio album titled Sun God in 1995 for Fifth Colvmn Records and Original Artists Group.
