Timothy Bowman Sr. (born April 22, 1959) is an American smooth jazz gospel musician. He started his music career, in 1996, with the release of, Love, Joy, Peace, by INSP Media Group (Insync Music) alongside Diamante Records, and they released his first three albums, 1998's Paradise and 2000's Smile. The subsequent album, This Is What I Hear, was released by Liquid 8 Records in 2004. His fifth album, Tim Bowman, released in 2008 by Trippin 'N' Rhythm Records. This album was his breakthrough release upon the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.

Early life

Bowman was born on April 22, 1959, as Timothy Bowman in Detroit, Michigan. His older sister is Vickie Winans(who was also a member of International Sounds of Deliverance, a gospel group that he joined after his high school commencement ceremony). His parents were a father who worked in the construction business, Aaron Bowman, and a mother who was a homemaker, Mattie A. Bowman. [1] He started playing the guitar at 11 years old, and he became a member of The Winans, for a short time during the early to mid-1980s, as their guitarist, after getting an invite to play a show at Mercy College in the presence of Andraé Crouch. [1] He would soon get tired of the endless touring schedule, and left the group in 1987. [1]

Music career

His solo music recording career commenced in May 1996, with the album, Love, Joy, Peace, and it was released by INSP Media Group (Insync Music), who originated from Salem, Oregon, alongside Diamante Records, yet they only made 2,000 units to sell in his hometown of Detroit, and in the span of five weeks half of the units were sold. [2] The labels decided to sell the album nationwide that October. [1] He released two more albums with the labels, 1998's Paradise and 2000's Smile. [2] The subsequent album, This Is What I Hear, was released by Liquid 8 Records on August 3, 2004. [2] His fifth album, Tim Bowman, released on September 30, 2008, by Trippin 'N' Rhythm Records. [2] This album was his breakthrough release upon the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, and it placed at a peak of No. 15. [3] He has placed four songs on the Smooth Jazz Songs chart over the course of his career. [3]

Personal life

His son, Tim Bowman Jr., is a gospel music artist in his own right.

Diamante Music Group was a Newport Beach, California-based independent record label distributor active from 1993 through 2004. Diamante was home to several dozen small independent record labels, some of whose artists later gained worldwide recognition.

Tribute Records is an American gospel music record label established in 1990. The label was co-founded by jazz musician and former pro basketball player Ben Tankard and George King. King owned Nashville based Diadem Music Group which produced Contemporary Christian music. Diadem's signature artist Bob Carlisle is best known for his hit song "Butterfly Kisses". Tribute became the urban contemporary gospel division of Diadem and home to several gospel music stars, most notably Tankard, Yolanda Adams, Twinkie Clark of The Clark Sisters and others. Tankard was executive producer and music producer on most of the early Tribute releases and his vision was to develop artists and pioneer a new smooth genre of music he coined as "gospeljazz". He featured Yolanda Adam's jazzy vocals on the album and concept video single " You Bring Out The Best In Me " on his 1994 release "Play Me In Your Key". The jazzy collaborations of Tankard and Adams produced major crossover success and brought the name of Tribute Records to the forefront. Office Depot produced a gospel style " Taking Care Of Business " commercial national ad campaign that was centered on Tribute Records, Tankard, and Adams and ran from 1994-1996.

Ashmont Hill is an American urban contemporary gospel group from Boston, Massachusetts. The group consists of four members, Deborah Bullock, Wil Bullock, April Joy Mtyora, and Phil Thompson. In 2008, the group broke through on the Billboard magazine charts with their album Ashmont Hill that was released on May 13, 2008.
