Tom Abatemarco (born October 3, 1949) is an American college basketball coach, currently an assistant for the Iona Gaels of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Abatemarco has previously been a head coach at Lamar, Drake and Sacramento State. He was also an assistant to Jim Valvano on the 1983 national champion NC State team and spent time as a professional assistant in the Women's National Basketball Association and the NBA Development League.
Abatemarco's best season as a head coach came with Lamar in the 1987–88 season where the team won 20 games. He then moved to Drake, but his tenure there was short. After a player revolt in his second season he resigned his post on February 20, 1990. [1]
In 2020, Abatemarco was hired by Rick Pitino as an assistant at Iona, marking his 21st coaching stop. [2]
Richard Andrew Pitino is an American basketball coach who is the men's head coach for St. John's Red Storm. He was also the head coach of Greece's senior national team. He has been the head coach of several teams in NCAA Division I and in the NBA, including Boston University (1978–1983), Providence College (1985–1987), the New York Knicks (1987–1989), the University of Kentucky (1989–1997), the Boston Celtics (1997–2001), the University of Louisville (2001–2017), Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and EuroLeague (2018–2020), and Iona University (2020–2023).
William John Donovan Jr. is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He coached previously for the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2015 to 2020. Before moving to the NBA, he served as the head basketball coach at the University of Florida from 1996 to 2015, and led his Florida Gator teams to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007, as well as an NCAA championship appearance in 2000.

Richard William Pitino is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach of the New Mexico Lobos men's team. From 2013 to 2021, he was head coach of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team. He is the son of St. Johns University head coach Rick Pitino. After attending St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Massachusetts, Richard Pitino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Providence College in 2005. During his time at Providence, Pitino was the manager for the Friars men's basketball team under Tim Welsh. For two years, he also served as an assistant basketball coach for Saint Andrew's School in nearby Barrington, Rhode Island.

The Lamar Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Cardinals currently play in the Southland Conference following a return from the Western Athletic Conference on July 11, 2022. They were one of four programs, all from Texas, that left the Southland Conference on July 1, 2021, to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lamar left the Southland Conference for the second time, having initially joined at the league's formation in 1963, left in 1987, and returned in 1999. After one season in the WAC, Lamar returned to the Southland Conference. The Cardinals have played home games in the Montagne Center since 1984. The Lamar University basketball team is one of the school's most storied athletic programs. The Cardinals have competed in NCAA Tournament play eleven times and six times at the NCAA Division I level with the most recent appearance in the 2012 tournament. The 1979–80 team was one of the 1980 tournament's Sweet Sixteen teams. The Cardinals have also competed in four NIT tournaments. Heading into the 2014–2015 season Lamar had a 284–143 record in the Montagne Center. The Cardinals overall record going into the 2014–2015 season was 922–818.
The Iona Gaels men's basketball team represents Iona University in New Rochelle, New York in NCAA Division I competition. The school's team competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and plays home games in Hynes Athletic Center. On March 21, 2023, the Gaels hired Tobin Anderson as their head coach.

The Gaels were to be led by 10th-year head coach Tim Cluess, but he never coached a game due to health reasons. Associate head coach Tra Arnold took over the head coaching duties for this season. They played their home games at the Hynes Athletic Center in New Rochelle, New York as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 12–17, 9–11 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for sixth place. As the No. 7 seed in the MAAC tournament, they defeated Canisius before losing to Saint Peter's in the quarterfinals.
The 2020–21 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's basketball season began with practices in October 2020, followed by the start of the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season on November 25. Conference play started in December and concluded in March 2021. This season was the 40th season of MAAC basketball.
The 2020–21 Iona Gaels men's basketball team represented Iona College in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Gaels, led by first-year head coach Rick Pitino, played their home games at the Hynes Athletic Center in New Rochelle, New York as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they finished the season 12–6, 6–3 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for ninth place. As the No. 9 seed in the MAAC tournament, they defeated Quinnipiac, Siena, and Niagara to advance to the tournament championship game. They defeated Fairfield to win the tournament championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. They received a No. 15 seed in the East region, and lost in the First round to No. 2 seed Alabama 55–68.

The Gaels, led by second-year head coach Rick Pitino, played their home games at the Hynes Athletic Center in New Rochelle, New York as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 25-8, 17-3 in MAAC Play to finish as regular season champions. They were upset in the quarterfinals of the MAAC tournament by Rider. As a No. 1 seed who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Florida.

The 2022–23 St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team represented St. John's University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were coached by Mike Anderson, in his fourth year at the school, and played their home games at Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 17–14, 7–13 in Big East Play to finish in eighth place. They won defeated Butler in the opening round of the Big East tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Marquette.
