Tom Jose (born 30 May 1936) is an Indian civil servant retired as the Chief Secretary,Government of Kerala. [1] He is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer belonging 1984 batch of Kerala cadre. He served as Chairman of Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC). [2]
He is a graduate of MBA from Cochin University of Science and Technology.[ citation needed ]
Jose started his career as Sub Collector,Thrissur. He was the district collector of Pathanamthitta district. He served in Ministry of Defence as Director and As Counselor in Embassy of India in Moscow from 2004 to 2007. He then served as Principal Secretary in Public Works Department,Higher Education department,Transport department and Planning and Economic affairs department. When Kochi Metro Rail Limited was formed,he served as the first Managing Director. Also he held the position of Managing Director of KSIDC and KSINC. Before appointed as Chief Secretary,he was Additional Chief Secretary,Labour &Skills Department. [3] His tenure as Chief Secretary of Kerala was challenging,with Nipah Outbreak,2018 Floods and COVID-19 outbreak. He was able to efficiently manage the emergencies in professional manner. [4] After retirement,he served as Chairman,Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation. [5]
Controversy
Recently he made a hate speech against Malankara Orthodox Church regarding the 1934 Malankara Orthodox Church constitution stating church do not have original with them.

It serves India's Saint Thomas Christian population. According to tradition,these communities originated in the missions of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century. It employs the Malankara Rite,an Indian form of the West Syriac liturgical rite.

The Malankara Varghese Murder Case is a case regarding the death of T. M. Varghese also known as Malankara Varghese,a member of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church's managing committee and a timber merchant on 5 December 2002. He was hacked to death by a gang outside a car workshop on main central road near Perumbavoor. Though the murder was initially described as a result of business rivalry,his relatives suspected involvement of a rival church faction. India's Central Bureau of Investigation on 9 May 2010 charged Father Varghese Thekkekara,a priest and manager of the Angamali diocese in the rival Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church with conspiracy in the murder and named him as the prime accused.
Baselios Marthoma Paulose II;30 August 1946 –12 July 2021) was the primate of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He was ordained in 1973,consecrated in 1985 and enthroned as the 8th Catholicos of the Malankara Church and the 21st Malankara Metropolitan on 1 November 2010,succeeding Didymos I.
