Thomas Murphy (born 19 March 1986) is a former Australian rules football player who played with the Hawthorn Football Club and Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League. Murphy was selected with the 21st pick in the 2004 AFL Draft and was a defender.

He spent the bulk of his debut year with the Box Hill Hawks at Victorian Football League level, but broke into the Hawthorn side for the final game of the year. In 2006 he added a further seven games and kicked his first goal. Murphy played 18 games in 2008 and was listed as an emergency for the 2008 Grand Final. In 2008 he mainly played on the third tall forward but due to injuries to other defenders Murphy played as the full back. [1] He was voted Best Clubman in 2010. [2] Prior to the 2012 AFL Grand Final between Hawthorn and Sydney, Murphy was dropped from the side and replaced by Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge. [3]

On 12 October 2012, Murphy signed a two-year contract with Gold Coast as an unrestricted free agent. [4] He retired from professional football at the end of the 2014 AFL season. [2]

The first game was played on Thursday, 22 March, and the season concluded with the 2018 AFL Grand Final on Saturday, 29 September between West Coast and Collingwood. West Coast defeated Collingwood by five points, winning their fourth premiership.

The 2019 Hawthorn Football Club season was the club's 95th season in the Australian Football League and 118th overall, the 20th season playing home games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the 19th season playing home games at the University of Tasmania Stadium, the 15th season under head coach Alastair Clarkson, and the 1st season with Ben Stratton as club captain. A 19-point loss to Sydney in round 14 meant that Hawthorn could not match their 15–7 record from 2018. A 70-point win over Gold Coast meant that for a tenth-consecutive season Hawthorn won at least 10 games.
