Tony Juliano (also known as Tony "Baloney" Juliano) (born February 7, 1975) is a satirist painter in New Haven, Connecticut and is affiliated with the international art movement Stuckism.

Life and work

Tony Juliano was born in 1975. He received a BFA from the Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut in 1997.

From 1997 to 2001, he re-designed classic toys for Hasbro and Milton Bradley.

In 2001, he exhibited at the Rx: Comic Relief show held at John Slade Ely House in New Haven, Connecticut with other exhibiting artists Chris Capezzone, Bob Hepner, Rita Valley and Bill Saunders.

In 2003, Juliano founded Agoo Art, a free-lance fine art limited liability company. He was commissioned to paint murals for The Peabody Museum of Natural History in New Haven, Connecticut and at Stew Leonard's Haunted Farm in Norwalk, Connecticut and the Hamden Connecticut Public Library.

Juliano exhibited at CBGB gallery called CB's 313 Gallery in New York City with Attaboy, KRK Ryden, Patrick Williams, Naoto Hattori and Porkchop during the "Happily Deranged" show.

In August 2005, Juliano and Jesse Richards curated an international exhibition called Addressing the Shadow and Making Friends with Wild Dogs: Remodernism at CB's 313 Gallery in New York City.

In 2004, Juliano was awarded the Business New Haven Rising Star Award for his accomplishments.

Juliano was included as one of the US representatives in the Stuckists' first national gallery show, The Stuckists Punk Victorian , which was held at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool during the Liverpool Biennial.

In 2006, Art that Brings Meaning to your Life at Hygienic Art Gallery, showcased Juliano's paintings as well as Aidan Moran, Kim Mikenis and David Marshall.

In 2007, Juliano curated an art and music exhibition at The NEST Art Lofts in Bridgeport, Connecticut where Juliano had the CT Roller Derby girls serve refreshments on their roller skates.

From 2004 to 2010, Juliano taught art at the Music and Arts Center for Humanity in Bridgeport, Connecticut and the 21st century in Orange, Connecticut.

Tony Juliano's artwork has been in magazines and books such as Direct Art, Juxtapoz, ISM quarterly, Art Buzz, and The Book of SPAM.

In 2007, Juliano started producing, Forgot to Laugh: Sideshow and Animation Festival. A combination of live circus performances that include fire acts, world ranked yo-yo performers, magicians, contortionists, burlesque, knife throwers, sword swallowers and other acts. Also animated shorts from Bill Plympton, Spike and Mike, Aardman Animations, and Happy Tree Friends.

Stuckism International art movement

Stuckism is an international art movement founded in 1999 by Billy Childish and Charles Thomson to promote figurative painting as opposed to conceptual art. By May 2017 the initial group of 13 British artists had expanded to 236 groups in 52 countries.

Charles Thomson (artist)

Charles Thomson is an English artist, poet and photographer. In the early 1980s he was a member of The Medway Poets. In 1999 he named and co-founded the Stuckists art movement with Billy Childish. He has curated Stuckist shows, organised demonstrations against the Turner Prize, run an art gallery, stood for parliament and reported Charles Saatchi to the OFT. He is frequently quoted in the media as an opponent of conceptual art. He was briefly married to artist Stella Vine.

Sexton Ming is a British artist, poet and musician who was a founding member of The Medway Poets (1979) and Stuckism art movement (1999).

Terry Marks

Terry Marks is a Stuckist artist in New York City. She was one of the US artists in the show The Stuckists Punk Victorian at the Walker Art Gallery during the 2004 Liverpool Biennial. She is also a tattooist and actor for film and television. Terry is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Jesse Richards

Jesse Richards is a painter, filmmaker and photographer from New Haven, Connecticut and was affiliated with the international movement Stuckism. He has been described as "one of the most provocative names in American underground culture," and "the father of remodernist cinema."

<i>The Stuckists Punk Victorian</i> 2004 art exhibition in Liverpool, England

The Stuckists Punk Victorian was the first national gallery exhibition of Stuckist art. It was held at the Walker Art Gallery and Lady Lever Art Gallery in Liverpool from 18 September 2004 to 20 February 2005 and was part of the 2004 Liverpool Biennial.

John Bourne (artist)

John Bourne is a British artist and painter, living and working in Wales, and a member of the Stuckists art movement. He founded the Wrexham Stuckists group in 2001 and has been exhibited in the group's shows since then, including The Stuckists Punk Victorian. He has also taken part in Stuckist demonstrations against the Turner Prize. The subject matter for his paintings, which are done in a simplified style, comes from his memories.

Charles Williams (artist)

Charles Williams is a British artist. He is a founding member of the Stuckist art group and a member of the New English Art Club.

Stuckism in Australia

Stuckism is an art movement that began in London, England, in 1999. In 2000, Melbourne artist Regan Tamanui started the first international branch of the movement. As of 2010, there are seven Australian Stuckist groups, who have held shows—sometimes concurrently with UK activities—received coverage in the Australian press and on TV, and also been represented in UK shows. The Stuckists take a strong pro-painting and anti-conceptual art stance, and were co-founded by Charles Thomson and Billy Childish.

Stuckist demonstrations Art group activities

Stuckist demonstrations since 2000 have been a key part of the Stuckist art group's activities and have succeeded in giving them a high-profile both in Britain and abroad. Their primary agenda is the promotion of painting and opposition to conceptual art.

Stuckism in the United States

The Stuckism art movement was started in London in 1999 to promote figurative painting and oppose conceptual art. This was mentioned in the United States media, but the first Stuckist presence in US was not until the following year, when former installation artist, Susan Constanse, founded a Pittsburgh chapter.

Regan Tamanui

Regan Tamanui is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia. In October 2000, he founded the Melbourne Stuckists, the fourth Stuckist of the original Stuckist groups and the first outside the United Kingdom. He has also painted prolifically as a street artist under the tag name HA-HA.

Naive John is a British artist and figurative painter. His work shows attention to detail with subjects that combine elements from popular culture alongside the mythic and mundane. He has also in the past been involved in the Stuckism art movement.

Stuckist photographers

Stuckist Photographers are photographers who develop the values of the Stuckism art painting movement into film and photography. Some of them are in a group called the Stuckist Photographers.

Odysseus Yakoumakis

Odysseus Yakoumakis is a Stuckist artist, painter and illustrator, based in Athens, Greece. He is the founder of the first Greek Stuckist group, The Romantic Anonymous Fellowship, and organiser of the first international Stuckist group show in Greece, Under the Cover of Romantic Anonymity. He was a scheduled speaker at the first Stuckist international symposium, The Triumph of Stuckism, in England. He practises martial arts and he is currently studying traditional engraving.

Paier College of Art

Paier College of Art or Paier College is a private for-profit art college in Hamden, Connecticut. Paier is the only independent art college in Connecticut.

<i>Sir Nicholas Serota Makes an Acquisitions Decision</i>

Sir Nicholas Serota Makes an Acquisitions Decision is one of the best known paintings to come out of the Stuckism art movement, and a likely "signature piece" for the movement, standing for its opposition to conceptual art. It was painted by the Stuckism co-founder Charles Thomson in 2000, and has been exhibited in a number of shows since, as well as being featured on placards during Stuckist demonstrations against the Turner Prize.

Stuckism International Gallery

The Stuckism International Gallery was the gallery of the Stuckist art movement. It was open from 2002 to 2005 in Shoreditch, and was run by Charles Thomson, the co-founder of Stuckism. It was launched by a procession carrying a coffin marked "The death of conceptual art" to the neighbouring White Cube gallery.

Nicholas Watson

Nicholas Watson is a writer and filmmaker. He co-founded the New Haven Stuckist art group.
