Canadian Classique Soccer rivalry between Toronto FC and CF Montréal

MLS Cup 2016 was the 21st edition of the MLS Cup, the championship game of Major League Soccer (MLS), which took place on December 10, 2016, at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was the second final to be hosted in Toronto, after 2010, and the first there since the cup transitioned away from neutral-site venues. The Seattle Sounders won the cup over Toronto FC in a penalty shoot-out that followed a 0–0 draw.

The 2016 Canadian Championship was a soccer tournament hosted and organized by the Canadian Soccer Association. It was the ninth edition of the annual Canadian Championship, and took place in the cities of Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver in 2016. The participating teams were Ottawa Fury FC and FC Edmonton of the second-division North American Soccer League, and the Montreal Impact, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer, the first-level of Canadian club soccer. The Vancouver Whitecaps were the reigning champions; having won their first title in the 2015 competition.

MLS Cup 2017 was the 22nd edition of the MLS Cup, the championship of Major League Soccer (MLS), contested between Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders FC on December 9, 2017. The match was hosted at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada, for the second consecutive year and third time overall. Both teams made their second appearance in the MLS Cup, in a rematch of the 2016 edition.

The 2017 Toronto FC season was the 11th season in the history of Toronto FC. On June 27, 2017, Toronto FC won their sixth Canadian Championship 3–2 on aggregate over Montreal, earning them a spot in the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League. On September 30, Toronto FC won their first Supporters' Shield with a 4–2 home win over New York Red Bulls, to clinch top of the league with the most points that season. By doing so, they also became the first Canadian team to win the Supporters' Shield. In Toronto FC's last regular season match of the season on October 22, Toronto FC drew 2–2 away to Atlanta; in doing so, Toronto FC broke the MLS regular season point record with 69 points. On November 29, Toronto FC won the Eastern Conference Championship for the second year in a row, with a 1–0 aggregate win over the Columbus Crew. On December 9, 2017, Toronto defeated Seattle 2–0 in the 2017 MLS Cup final, becoming the first MLS team to complete a domestic treble, as well as the first Canadian team to win the MLS Cup.

MLS Cup 2019 2019 edition of the MLS Cup

MLS Cup 2019 was the 24th edition of the MLS Cup, the championship match of Major League Soccer (MLS), and took place on November 10, 2019, at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington, United States. The match was contested by Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC to determine the champion of the 2019 season. It was a rematch of the 2016 and 2017 editions of the MLS Cup, which were won by Seattle and Toronto, respectively. This was the third final for both teams and the first to be hosted by the Sounders, as both of the previous Seattle–Toronto finals were held at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
