Tour of Azerbaijan (Iran), also known as the Tour of Iranian Azerbaijan or Azerbaijan Tour is an annual multiple stage road bicycle racing held in Iran since 1986, named after Iranian Azerbaijan. It is a UCI 2.1 category race and is part of the UCI Asia Tour.
Tour of Azerbaijan (Iran) was established in 1986 by Asghar Khodayari and Akbar Goharkhani, with the name Tour de Urmia Lake. The stages of the tour were modified several times. In 2010, one stage of the tour was held in Nakhichevan, an autonomous republic of Azerbaijan. In 2013, Azerbaijan International Cycling Tour was renamed to Tour of Azerbaijan (Iran). [1]
In 2016, for the first time, a cycling team from the United States, Team Illuminate, announced their participation in the race. They said they wanted to show "how cycling can connect people". [2]
The 32nd edition of the tour rescheduled from May to October to avoid coincidence with Iran's presidential election.[ citation needed ] The organizers of the tour announced that the schedule of the following years will be in May as usual.[ citation needed ]
In 2020 and 2021, the race was not held.[ citation needed ][ clarification needed ]

Steven Todd Bauer, MSM is a retired professional road bicycle racer from Canada. He won the first Olympic medal in road cycling for Canada and until 2022 he was the only Canadian to win an individual stage of the Tour de France.
Stefan Schumacher is a German former professional road racing cyclist. Schumacher won the bronze medal in the road race at the 2007 UCI Road World Championships, two stages in the 2006 Giro d'Italia and two stages in the 2008 Tour de France. After positive results on doping products in the 2008 Tour de France and the 2008 Summer Olympics, he received a suspension for two years, later reduced by some months. After his suspension, he came back as a professional cyclist before retiring in 2017.
Ghader Mizbani Iranagh is an Iranian former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2001 and 2018 for the Telekom Malaysia Cycling Team, the Giant Asia Racing Team, Brisaspor, the Tabriz Petrochemical Team and the Tabriz Shahrdary Team. Mizbani won the overall standings of the UCI Asia Tour twice – in 2005–06 and 2008–09. Mizbani won the Iranian National Road Race Championships three times and the Iranian National Time Trial Championships twice.
Hossein Askari is an Iranian former professional racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2005 and 2016 for the Giant Asia Racing Team, Tabriz Petrochemical Team, Ayandeh Continental Team and Pishgaman–Giant teams.
Mes Sungun–Azad is an Iranian UCI Continental cycling team based in Islamic Azad University, Tehran, Iran; the team was founded in 2007 and disbanded in 2013, before restarting in 2021.

Mirsamad Pourseyedi Golakhour is an Iranian cyclist who currently rides for UCI Continental team Mes Sungun–Azad. He was suspended from May 2011 to June 2013 because of testing positive to the use of erythropoietin (EPO).
