Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) 2018 was a UCI Asia Tour 2.1 event and the 33rd edition of Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) which took place in six stages between September 29-October 4, 2018 in Iranian Azerbaijan. [1] The race started in the city of Tabriz and traveled through Urmia, Jolfa, and Sarein.

Tabriz is a city in the Central District of Tabriz County, in the East Azerbaijan province of northwestern Iran. It is capital of the province, county, and district. It is the sixth-most-populous city in Iran.
Azerbaijan or Azarbaijan, also known as Iranian Azerbaijan, is a historical region in northwestern Iran that borders Iraq and Turkey to the west, and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Armenia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan to the north.
Lake Urmia is an endorheic salt lake in Iran. The lake is located between the provinces of East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan in Iran, and west of the southern portion of the Caspian Sea. Maku is a city in the Central District of Maku County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, and serves as capital of both the county and the district.
Aras Free Trade - Industrial Zone is located in the Northwest of Iran at the border point with neighboring Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. According to the Decree No. 20708/T/530820, dated 28 June 2005 by the Board of Ministers, the area of the Aras Free Zone included 9,700 hectares of the lands of the region. This area was expanded on 4 December 2008 to 51,000 hectares based on the new decree of this Board, including some parts of the Jolfa and Kaleybar towns. This approved area in the attached part has increased the main district from 9,700 hectares to 20,500 hectares, and in three detached parts makes up totally 51,000 hectares of entire Aras Free Zone including a part of the Kaleibar city with the area of 24,000 hectares and the vicinity of Khodafarin Dam with the area of 6,100 hectares as well as the district of Norduz Customs with the area of 240 hectares.
Ghader Mizbani Iranagh is an Iranian former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2001 and 2018 for the Telekom Malaysia Cycling Team, the Giant Asia Racing Team, Brisaspor, the Tabriz Petrochemical Team and the Tabriz Shahrdary Team. Mizbani won the overall standings of the UCI Asia Tour twice – in 2005–06 and 2008–09. Mizbani won the Iranian National Road Race Championships three times and the Iranian National Time Trial Championships twice.
Hossein Askari is an Iranian former professional racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2005 and 2016 for the Giant Asia Racing Team, Tabriz Petrochemical Team, Ayandeh Continental Team and Pishgaman–Giant teams. During his career, Askari was suspended for one year for doping in 2013 and 2014.
Tour of Azerbaijan (Iran), also known as the Tour of Iranian Azerbaijan or Azerbaijan Tour is an annual multiple stage road bicycle racing held in Iran since 1986, named after Iranian Azerbaijan. It is a UCI 2.1 category race and is part of the UCI Asia Tour.
The 2010 Tour de Langkawi was the 15th edition of the Tour de Langkawi, a cycling stage race that took place in Malaysia. The race began on 1 March in Kota Bharu and ended on 7 March in Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur. The race was sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a 2.HC race on the 2009–10 UCI Asia Tour calendar.

The 2011 Tour de Langkawi was the 16th edition of the Tour de Langkawi, a cycling stage race that took place in Malaysia. It began on 23 January in Dataran Lang, Langkawi and ended on 1 February in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. The race was sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a 2.HC race on the 2010–11 UCI Asia Tour calendar.
Hossein Alizadeh is an Iranian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team Mes Sungun–Azad. A former national champion, Alizadeh is an extremely powerful climber and, at his best, matches the best time-trialists. He is both able to sustain a high intensity during long, steep climb and he is feared and famous in Asia tours for his explosive attacks that often leaves the front group split into pieces.
Tabriz Petrochemical CCN Team UCI team code:TPT was an Iranian UCI Continental cycling team managed by Ramin Dadgar and Azim Abdolnezhad and main sponsored by Tabriz Petrochemical Company. The Tabriz Petrochemical Team has achieved first place in both the riders' and teams' overall classifications in the UCI Asia Tour in 2007–2008, 2008–2009 and 2009–2010
The 2015 Tour de Taiwan was the thirteenth edition of the Tour de Taiwan cycling stage race. It started on 22 March and ended on 26 March, consisting of five stages and was rated as a 2.1 event on the 2015 UCI Asia Tour. The 2014 champion was Rémy Di Gregorio, but his team was not selected to take part in the 2015 edition.

Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) 2017 was a UCI 2.1 Asian Tour stage race and the 32nd edition of Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) which took place across six stages October 8–13, 2017 in Iranian Azerbaijan. The total length of the tour was 1,017.0 km with its route passing through Tabriz, Urmia, Jolfa, Sarein, and Sahand Ski Resort. A total of 14 Iranian and International teams participated in this edition of the tour.
The 2018 Tour de France was the 105th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's three Grand Tours. The 3,351 km (2,082 mi)-long race consisted of 21 stages, starting on 7 July in Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, in western France, and concluding on 29 July with the Champs-Élysées stage in Paris. A total of 176 riders from 22 teams participated in the race. The overall general classification was won by Geraint Thomas of Team Sky. Tom Dumoulin placed second, with Thomas's teammate and four-time Tour winner Chris Froome coming third.
