Towong is a bounded rural locality of the Shire of Towong local government area in Victoria, Australia. Towong is on the Murray River close to Corryong.
Towong Post Office opened on 10 January 1882 and closed in 1994. [2]
The existing timber bridge across the Murray River at Towong was built in 1938. Work on a new bridge is scheduled to begin in 2022. [3] [4]
Towong is home to the historic Towong Turf Club, hosting thoroughbred horse racing since 1871. Currently Country Racing Victoria schedules two race meetings per year at the venue, the Towong Cup meeting (traditionally held in early March) and the Squizzy Taylor Dash meeting (traditionally held in late December). Albury is a major regional city in New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the Hume Highway and the northern side of the Murray River. Echuca is a town on the banks of the Murray River and Campaspe River in Victoria, Australia. The border town of Moama is adjacent on the northern side of the Murray River in New South Wales. Echuca is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Shire of Campaspe. As at June 2018 Echuca had a population of 14,934, and the population of the combined Echuca and Moama townships was 21,242 at the same time.
Corryong is a small town in Victoria, Australia 120 kilometres (75 mi) east of Albury-Wodonga, near the upper reaches of the Murray River and close to the New South Wales border. At the 2016 census, Corryong had a population of 1,348.

Wangaratta is a city in the northeast of Victoria, Australia, 236 km (147 mi) from Melbourne along the Hume Highway. The city had an estimated urban population of 19,318 at June 2018. The Murray Valley Highway is a 663-kilometre (412 mi) state highway located in Victoria and New South Wales, Australia. The popular tourist route mostly follows the southern bank of the Murray River and effectively acts as the northernmost highway in Victoria. For all but the western end's last three kilometres, the route is designated as B400.
Kerang is a rural town on the Loddon River in northern Victoria in Australia. It is the commercial centre to an irrigation district based on livestock, horticulture, lucerne and grain. It is located 279 kilometres (173 mi) north-west of Melbourne on the Murray Valley Highway a few kilometres north of its intersection with the Loddon Valley Highway, elevation 78 metres (256 ft). At the 2016 census, Kerang had a population of 3,893. Kerang is believed to be an Aboriginal word for Cockatoo. It is home to the largest solar and battery farm in the country which was opened in June 2019. The 50-megawatt battery system is located outside of Kerang and stores 100 per cent renewable energy. The 2,000 solar panels have become a tourist attraction and are drawing many businesses to the town.
Corowa is a town in the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is on the bank of the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, opposite the Victorian town of Wahgunyah. It is the largest town in the Federation Council and was the administrative centre of the former Corowa Shire. The name could have derived from an Aboriginal word referring to the curra pine which yielded gum used by Aboriginal people to fasten the heads of spears to the shafts. Another translation is "rocky river".

Walwa, is a town in the Shire of Towong in north east Victoria, Australia. The town is located 1 kilometre from the Murray River on the former Murray Valley highway between Wodonga and Corryong. At the 2016 census, the Walwa population had declined to just 177 having been 268 just ten years earlier.
The Upper Murray Football Netball League(UMFNL) is an Australian Rules Football and Netball competition based in the rural town of Corryong, Victoria, Australia. The league contains five clubs from around the townships & farming districts of the greater Upper Murray area, including the three founding clubs from 1893.
