Tralee Dynamos A.F.C. is an Irish association football club based in Tralee, County Kerry. Their senior team currently plays in the Kerry District League. They have previously fielded teams in the League of Ireland U19 Division, the A Championship, the Munster Senior League and the Limerick Desmond League.

History

Early years

According to the club crest, Tralee Dynamos were founded in 1961. Limerick Desmond League in 1955. Other founder members of this league included Newcastle West A.F.C. In 1971 Tralee Dynamos and Killarney Athletic left the Desmond League to become founder members of the Kerry District League. [1] [2] [3] Tralee Dynamos were the inaugural champions of the KDL and subsequently became the league's most successful team. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] In 1997–98 the club won its first national trophy when they won the FAI Youth Cup defeating Stella Maris in the final. [2] [7] In 1999–2000 the club also entered a team in the Munster Senior League. [6]

A Championship

Between 2009 and 2011, Tralee Dynamos played in the A Championship.

[8] [9] They were the first and to date so far, the only association football club from County Kerry to play in a senior national level league. They made their A Championship debut on 5 April 2009 with a 1–0 defeat against Sporting Fingal A. Following the collapse of the A Championship, Tralee Dynamos applied to join League of Ireland First Division for the 2012 season. However this was unsuccessful and their senior team subsequently rejoined the Kerry District League. They also entered a team in the League of Ireland U19 Division. [6] [10] [11] [12] [13]

William Michael "Billy" Dennehy is an Irish former footballer and is the Sporting Director of League of Ireland First Division side Kerry. He was a left-sided midfielder but also played on the right wing. He is the older brother of Darren who is a former Irish footballer.

Réalt na Mara, Cromane, is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from the fishing village of Cromane, eight miles west of Killorglin in County Kerry, Ireland.

The A Championship, also known as the Newstalk A Championship, was an association football league featuring League of Ireland reserve teams and emerging senior teams. It was a third level league in the Republic of Ireland football league system. It was formed in 2008 and disbanded following the 2011 season. Between 2009 and 2011 the league was sponsored by Newstalk. It was effectively absorbed into the League of Ireland U19 Division.

The Limerick Desmond League is an association football league featuring amateur, junior, youth and under-17 teams from the part of County Limerick west of the N20. Its top division, the Premier Division, is a seventh level division in the Republic of Ireland football league system. Desmond is a historical name associated with both Limerick and Munster.

The 2009 A Championship was the second season of the A Championship in Ireland. The season was sponsored by Newstalk. The league featured 18 teams. Shamrock Rovers A were the champions while the runners up, Salthill Devon, were promoted to the First Division.

The League of Ireland U19 Division is the under-19 division of the League of Ireland. The current division is the successor of earlier U21 and U20 divisions. Like the Premier Division and First Division, the U19 Division is currently sponsored by Airtricity and as a result it is also known as the SSE Airtricity U19 League. The earlier U21 and U20 divisions were sponsored by Eircom and as a result were referred to as the Eircom U21 League or the Eircom U20 League. The division is also sometimes referred to as the Dr Tony O'Neill League because the winners are awarded the Dr Tony O'Neill Cup. In 2016 Cork City became the first team to represent the division in the UEFA Youth League.

Rockmount Association Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Whitechurch, County Cork.

Timothy Lyons was an Irish Gaelic footballer. He played at club level with Cordal and Castleislands Desmonds and at inter-county level with the Kerry senior football team.
