The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) is an intercollegiate athletic conference that competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III comprising sports teams from eleven highly selective liberal arts institutions of higher education in the Northeastern United States. The eleven institutions are Amherst College, Bates College, Bowdoin College, Colby College, Connecticut College, Hamilton College, Middlebury College, Tufts University, Trinity College, Wesleyan University, and Williams College.
The Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops are the sports and other competitive teams at Ohio Wesleyan University. The men's and women's Bishops teams are NCAA Division III teams that compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference and the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference. The university sponsors 25 varsity sports, as well as several intramural and club teams.
The Centre Colonels football team, historically also known as the Praying Colonels, represents Centre College in NCAA Division III competition. The Colonels currently play in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), which was established in 2011. Before the establishment of the SAA, Centre played 50 seasons in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Despite the school's small size, the football team has historically had success and possesses a strong tradition. Bill MacDermott was an American gridiron football coach. He played college football at Trinity College. After graduating from Trinity, he spent the next 50 years as a football coach at the college and professional levels. He was the head football coach at Wesleyan University from 1971 to 1986 and has also held coaching positions with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the Orlando Thunder, San Diego Chargers, Montreal Alouettes, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Toronto Argonauts, and Edmonton Eskimos.

The Catholic–Gallaudet rivalry is a rivalry in both football and basketball between the Catholic University Cardinals and Gallaudet Bison. Both institutions are based in Washington, D.C. In 2012, Gallaudet defeated Catholic 47–27 for its first ever victory in the series. The two teams have met only three times since 1994, but prior to that is a lengthy, one-sided rivalry. The series dates back to 1906. The basketball series dates back to 1911.

The RPI–WPI football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the RPI Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the WPI Engineers of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The two teams have played regularly since their first meeting in 1894, making it one of the oldest rivalries in college football history. The series was played uninterrupted from 1947 until 2020, when it was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the teams' 1979 meeting, the schools agreed to award a transit to the winning team; having become a tradition since 1980.
