The Trofeo Luis Puig is a single-day road bicycle race held in Valencian Community, Spain. [1] Originally named the Gran Premio Valencia, it was held annually (except for 1980) from the first edition in 1969 until 2005, in which year it was promoted to be a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. [2] It was then not run for 16 years, until re-introduced under the name Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969, as the opening event of the 2021 UCI Europe Tour as a race of 1.2 status. [3] In 2023, the race was upgraded to category 1.1. it is now named after Luis Puig, a prominent Spanish sports executive who server as president of the Union Cycliste Internationale. [4]
Spanish rider Vicente Mata died after being hit by a motorist in the 1987 edition of the race. [5]
David de la Fuente Rasilla is a Spanish professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Continental team Aviludo–Louletano–Loulé Concelho. De la Fuente led the mountains classification of the 2006 Tour de France for a number of stages, donning the Polka Dot jersey after stage 2, and then again after stage 11 until Michael Rasmussen took a commanding lead in the competition. For his numerous attacks, de la Fuente was subsequently awarded the combativity award.

The 69th edition of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana(English: Tour of the Valencian Community) was held from 31 January to 4 February 2018. It was run over five stages, of which one team time trial, covering a total distance of 691.8 km. It was a 2.1 event of the 2018 UCI Europe Tour. The race was run entirely in the autonomous community of Valencia, starting in Orpesa and finishing in Valencia.
